[TT] MSI Geforce GTX 680 Lightning Spotted - Page 15

I honestly don't think software voltage is possible on the kepler beyond 1175. The drivers enforce that max voltage cannot be higher than 1175mV no matter what.

I think the lightning will have a hardware mod involving the GPU reactor, thats my theory - along with a special BIOS (the card should have 3 preset BIOSs) In any case, i'm really liking the lightning more than the classified, i'm pretty excited about it. Apparently its coming SOON as well!

The 580 lightning held far more world records than the classified 580, history is about to repeat itself thumb.gif

That would be wonderful, if we could just get some specs:) I don't care WHO makes the card, I just want unlocked voltage.

Also, I would need confirmation of a waterblock before I purchased the Lightnings. That might be a while off...

The lightning 580 was clocked pretty conservatively but had much more OC headroom than the classified 580. I wouldn't expect amazing clock speeds, but you can bet that the lightning will OC better for sure! OTOH, now that I think about it -- since the classified has 1178 boost....the lightning can easily match that....

The Galaxy GTX 680 Hall of fame edition will have software voltage adjustment here pretty soon.

Edit: It's still up in the air atm.

That's why I'm ditching my 7970 Lightnings and going with reference. Already got EK 7970 blocks waiting....

So is the card going to have special drivers? Because the nvidia drivers dictate the max voltage and there's no way around it without a hardware mod, that is my understanding. As of now you can only change vDroop.

Who knows.

The card will also feature a dual-BIOS design to insure against bad BIOS updates. Apart from hard consolidated voltage measurement points, the card features a header for what's called "OC Panel", a physical tweaking gadget, similar to EVGA EVBot. Apart from this, there's a heavily updated Magic Panel software, with a boatload of settings. Galaxy did not give out its clock speeds information, but one can bet on the card having a massive OC headroom. Galaxy did not give out a launch time-frame.

Unexpected and interesting though.

Good grief that is too high...759$ with EV Bot?

Lightning it is for me.

I just want to know how and if the voltage on the lightning will have to be adjusted. Like people were saying on the Evga forms that there is still no solid info on voltage for either the lightning or the classified and the damn cards will be on sale very soon. Thats a lot of money to be spending blindly on something that they refuse to provide details about. It seems Evga and Msi are playing games with each other to see what the other will do.
