Thats a lot of money to be spending blindly on something that they refuse to provide details about. It seems Evga and Msi are playing games with each other to see what the other will do.

Yup, they are playing games to find out the others specs/plans etc. I knew that would happen to some extent, but when they play games, the joke is on us;)

The price for the classified and EVBOT together is a Joke ... especially when it looks like EVGA is not really binning their chips ... I would have likely paid what they are asking for 2 of em if the stock boost clock was what the Galaxy SOC is and could use the EVBOT to add voltage on top of that ... but the Classifieds will be a GPU lottery and not at that price point, no thank you EVGA.

I am assuming we will hear from MSI soon , I just hope that voltage adjustment is what we are hoping for and that the base clocks are not as "basic" as the Classifieds ... COME ON we want BINNING!!! smile.gif

I will be checking back here for info all day!

Yeah I have an Asus Gtx 680 TOP and still will probably buy the lightning and sell my top ha. I just want more headroom to play with voltage and all in a dual slot design instead of triple. Heres to hopping theres more of an announcement soon about voltage!

It did sounds like retail cards are shipping out after Alex's post yesterday. Should see them at newegg soon.

Everyone is concerned with unlocked voltage capability. Seems to me the memory bandwidth will limit these cards further if you can push your cores to 1400MHz plus.

Almost as if Nvidia already knew this, so they capped the voltage at 1.175v so the end use can't go much higher on the core with given voltage.

I'm thinking unlocked voltage on the current Keplar cards is kind of pointless. I see some benchies of GTX670s and 680s when the memory is OC'd, it seemed to help the scores out more than actual core clocking.

Maybe I'm wrong here?

@FataZlity definitely not required, but that OC was with it.

Alex @ Msi

Can you please comment on voltage adjustment. Will you be able to even adjust voltage and if so how will you be able to?
Quote:
Jacob Freeman ‏@EVGA_JacobF
@FataZlity 1175mV is max via software

If the max is 1.175 via software does that mean that the Lightning will not be able to adjust voltage? I really need to know because thats the main reason I am interested in this card. Any help or hints at all would be much appreciated.

I theorize that the GPU reactor on the back of the card will allow for voltage adjustment. The GPU reactor first appeared on the 7970 lightning which added additional overclocking wizardry, I expect this to be the method on the 680 lightning.

But if Alex can clarify that would be great smile.gif

the EVBot is required for voltage control over 1175mV afaik.

Yeah I would love just a little bit of info. I would think for sure that the Lightning PCB will completely be able to adjust voltage hardware wise with no modification. I mean it has voltage monitor points and lots of power phases and is built to "break records" ha. I just really want to know how I will be able to input what voltage I want. Say I want 1.2v on the core. How will I be able to tell the card that?
