So does temperature have anything to do with stabalizing an OC? I mean when it's not really high to begin with. I saw someone mention a few pages back that it did matter. But if mine is already low, like 59C with fan on Auto, then increasing fan to 100% for the run will actually help maintain stability at an overclock that crashes on the default fan profile?

Just depends on VRM temps. I only do high manual fan settings for benchmark runs, as it doesn't help for actual gaming -- but manual fan is definitely better for pedal to the medal benchmarking in terms of stability.

Well I'll do a 3dMark11 run at 1mhz over what is stable on the one card and use 100% fan speed and edit this post after the test. I'll try 1373mhz and see what happens...

Well I'll keep testing with the 100% fan speed, but it did end up being stable at 1373mhz.

Why do you think water cooling is so awesome?! Keeping those GPU temps down will get you max MHz every time! Even 59C is really hot when you are trying to squeeze out every last MHz....
I always thought it was good for keeping max temps down obviously. But I never thought 59C was high enough to cause instability.

Edit: Just replaced stock side-panel fan with Aerocool Shark 120mm and re-did the 100% fan speed Heaven run at 1350mhz/6800mhz. Results simply beg for more voltage-

Temp was 49C almost entire time, with very briefly touching 50C max temp.

Was having problems keeping temps down on my i7-3930K@4.8Ghz. (difficult keeping the temps on 6 cores in check) Replaced my H80 for the new Thermaltake Water2.0 Extreme. The best closed loop water cooler I have ever owned. Dropped the hottest core by 5C. After a few temperature cycles over the next 24 hours the MX4 thermal compound will settle in and maybe give me another 1-2 degrees. Now at 4.8Ghz, CPU is cooler and stable. (IBT tested) 3Dmark11 physics score P16,025 and graphics score moved up slightly to P12250.

The GTX680 Lightning is Awsome.

Would love to get my hands on 2.2.3 next week...

Come next tax return season, I may join you in the group of 3960X owners. I think my graphics side of things is set for a while. Time to work on the motherboard/processor now.
