[TT] MSI Geforce GTX 680 Lightning Spotted - Page 9

The information on the darned Classy hasn't even gotten out yet. This card is set to release next week and we still no nothing. I did see that Kingpin broke some records (yippie?) on LN2 in Quad SLI..

It does appear that the stock clock is 1400, doesn't it?

I'm not so sure. Kepler base clock and boost clock varies with every card, no 2 cards are alike. If kingpins test bed card is 1400, i'm not sure what to think. It could be he has a cherry picked card or it could be legit frown.gif You'd think the specs would be out by now since its being released so soon. redface.gif

Supermi: i bet the lightning will have a triple BIOS to unlock voltage like the GTX 580 lightning did. The 580 lightning had 2 overclocked BIOS', and 1 for LN2.

The information for the GTX680 Lightning will be available when the card is officially announced.

But rest assured, that date is soon.

I think it was a cherry picked card, since the Default Clock in GPU-Z is listed as 1111 MHz.

Good to know, thanks for the update Alex. I know the lightning won't disappoint, the 580 lightning held practically every record wink.gif

Can't wait to hear more!

Well if you look at the GPUZ for that test it shows the default clock at around 1111mhz so it is hard to say what these cards base clock will come with stock ... or is there default boost clock THAT high LOL?

Yeah I am pretty confident that the Lightnings will be unlocked to break the 1.175V mark at least on one of the BIOS's but the comment by Jacob regarding all 680's being unable to use software to pass the 1.175v mark and some other talk I have read following that just makes me worry a little... especially if the classifieds come out before the Lightnings and will likely sell out quick ... VOLTAGE BABY LOL

Though rationality tells me MSI has given us the voltage we need wink.gif

I'm telling you guys, Nvidia locked down voltages for a reason and I believe its because the 680's just don't have much headroom, regardless of voltage. They are a mid-range chip that has been pushed to the limits to perform like a high end one. Adding voltage will not matter IMO unless you are using extreme cooling...

Concerning the classified 680, i'm sure it will be a great product. I think i'd rather wait for the lightning 680s myself, since the 580 lightnings were a better product than the 580 classified. Furthermore, the 680 classy will likely cost 650$ for the card itself and 100$ more for EVBOT which is required for overvolting. So 750$ for the classified? Thats a bit much don't you think? I can guarantee I will wait for the 680 lightnings if it does cost such an enormous amount of money.

What? Base clocks are set in the BIOS depending on which SKU you bought(pre-overclocked cards)....The boost clock depends on the quality of the chip. It's only the boost clocks that vary from card to card, which can also be tweaked via the BIOS. (including power target & board power)
