I have an Asus PCE-N15 b/g/n with the latest drivers off the Asus site and it seems to be limited to ~350kbps download speeds in linux. According to the iw utility the connection is at 144.4Mbps which is what it runs at in Windows at full speed but the speed is gimped for some reason and I just can't figure it out. The iw documentation page says "If you need to connect to an AP with WPA or WPA2 encryption requirements then you must use wpa_supplicant." Great. So I d/l the tarball for that just to find out there's a huge freaking exhaustive config file that needs to be made before it can be built.
Before I start digging into all this I just want to make sure that I'm heading in the right direction to begin with, because some things don't seem to add up. According to all the documentation, I won't get >54Mbps without wpa_supplicant installed to handle the proper encryption protocols but the iw utility is telling me I'm already connected at 144Mbps. Despite that, I'm not even getting 54Mbps speeds. Is something else the issue?
