Asus P8Z68-V/GEN3 Issues

Hi Guys

Everything was working great on my system until the other day now all of a sudden im getting a few different issues

1) When i cold boot the red light next to CPU stays lit then the system powers off then powers itself on again about a second later and then boots up fine

2) When you restart the system instead of just restarting it actually powers down the system then turns itself back on again and often does problem 1 before booting back up

3) The first PCI-E slot seems like it could be defective as my GTX 670 keeps black screening, rebooting and losing signal input. Moved it to PCI-E slot 2 and hasnt done it yet. The problem is although the second slot should be x16 its only running at x8 which is probably why its ok in that slot frown.gif

The board is only 6 months old frown.gif It worked perfectly until i upgraded my PSU. I changed my PSU out for my old one that had been in and working fine for the 6 months but same black screen issue.

Any help appriciated redface.gif

1) It's a very common thing with these Asus Z68 motherboards, my P8Z68-V Pro/Gen3 also does that (even after BIOS upgrades)..

2) Also a common thing with these motherboards,my P8Z68-V Pro/Gen3 also does that..

3) As for your GTX 670 issues, I wouldn't know, all of my PCIE slots work perfectly fine, but maybe your GPU is defective (should be tested in another system and full 16x PCIE slot)..

OK cool thnks. problem 3 is the main one, it keeps crashing my system.

this is what happens when it reboots, my GPU isnt detected. Not sure if its a graphic card, PSU or motherboard issue.

What BIOS version are you on? I'm pretty sure its the motherboard. I haven't had any issues with my GTX 670, but a 4850X2 had the same issues you're describing on my V/GEN3.

Turns out a faulty graphics card was to blame for these issues.

The system does power on from a cold boot however then turns itself off and then back on before POST when the memory is overclocked which is a little odd. Its 100% stable in windows

You can try and use 1 of these fixes for the cold boot issue listed in the p8z68 owners club thread.

Some of you may have been experiencing a double POST on your P8P67 series motherboard whereupon after powering on the system from a cold boot, the board will power on and then immediately reset itself before it actually POSTs and shows any display on the screen. I’ll explain the fix below and give some information about why this happens.

First, I would like to stress the importance of flashing the BIOS to the latest BIOS revision as listed on our support website, http://support.asus.com/download. You can access the ASUS EZ Flash tool from within the UEFI (advanced options, tools) to flash the BIOS from any removable device such as a USB flash drive.
From time to time we needed to implement full resets in order to maintain stability due to the architecture of the Sandy Bridge platform. For instance, the system may require one full reset when the PCH power has been cut during S5 power state. To fix the most common additional reset (double POST when powering on from off state), enter UEFI BIOS -> go to ‘Advanced’ tab -> go down to ‘APM’, press Enter -> enable the “Power on by PCIe.” function. Then press F10 to save & exit. After save & exit, let the system boot into Windows or other OS, then perform a proper shutdown: Start button -> Shut down. You will no longer have the double POST. We will fix this in an upcoming BIOS release.

Was having a problem with cold boots, would power of and on and off and on then finally post. I was almost positive it was my power supply because the same thing happened with my UD7 low and behold it was the setting highlighted by the cursor below.

Internal PLL Over-Voltage-Disabled , no more cold boot problems !!!

I am stressing this right now!!! If you are having cold boot up problems with system looping on and off, disable this and it will more than likely solve your problem, although it is sometimes needed for high 48+ multi clocks!

Hope this helps
