Sucks cause now I have the same prob. Boot time is minute 40 seconds. I reinstalled windows cause I did a registry fix, then messed my OS up and realized that my restore points were gone and reinstalled windows and ever since my boot time is horrid.

I have the same drive Crucial M4 128GB with 000F firmware. SSD has been great reinstall Windows, and it's aligned and all the SSD tweaks are in place. So now I gotta find out what my problem is. I have the CPU OC, but it has always been OCed with no problems until the reinstall.

So.....Yeah... Kinda maddening. Did a sfc /scannow after reinstall and everything is fine according to the scan, and the boot times have been horrid before I installed any drivers, so I guess my drive might be going bad, but AS SSD shows speeds a tad bit better than the OP with a total score around the 700's. Grrr.

Yeah it's my storage HDD drive that is causing the slow boot. I unplugged the HDD and restart the computer and the boot time was blazing fast, considering I did a reinstall. Is there anyway to not have my storage drive cause my SSD to boot at such a slow speed?

Thing is the storage drive has never affected the boot time of my SSD until the reinstall. So why is there a conflict now after a reinstall? I did a clean install on the SSD when I first got it with the same storage drive and I didn't have any problems before, but after I did a 2nd install, the storage drive is giving my SSD problems with passing the splash screen? What gives?

I even tried the no GUI boot and that doesn't help. Only thing that helps is if I disconnect the storage drive. So please can someone help me resolve this with my HDD giving my SSD slow boot times? I mean it's a storage drive, it shouldn't effect windows at all. Anyways, if someone tells me how to fix this issue with results I will love you forever.

Thread Starter
I suspect it is a driver....

During my painful time, I realise that others too have these sort of problems and most of the time, it was due to driver or software related.

if you wanna get to the bottom of it, I recommend that you a refresh install and install 1 driver at a time and reboot...

thats what I did...

slow and painful but at least it gets the job done. Do remember to clean your HDD (i.e. parted magic)

Your asssd bechmark you posted a while ago seems low for a 256gb M4 my 64GB are better, although you have solved the long boot time..

I fixed it. Instead of letting windows do a format like last time, I went to the cmd prompt and did a diskpart clean all to secure erase the drive and formatted there and reinstalled windows again and it's back to normal now.

Also, I am not 100% sure what was causing the problem, it could of been that I didn't secure erase the drive before reinstalling, or it could be something that I recently discovered in my BIOS, which is aside from selecting ACHI mode (which was always selected), you can also select each individual drive in my BIOS and select either Hard Disk, or Solid State Drive and to also select disable/enable external for each drive, which if you didn't go fishing around for these settings, you wouldn't of noticed they were there.

My SSD unfortunately was selected as hard disk and I changed it to solid state drive and reinstalled, so even though achi and trim was enabled, I think this setting had a potential of messing things up for me, or could of been drivers, or I was doing repairs when the drive was selected as HDD, or a mix of all the above.

I did take it slow and restart the computer often when installing drivers and installations as well before I came back on to read this post, cause soon after I posted I just decided to reinstall. I got sick and tired of trying to figure out what was wrong. So this time I was going for a very methodical approach of what to install, and in what order to install them, and when to restart the computer. So everything is fine....for now.

Hope you were talking about your HDD being secure erased. CLEAN ALL in diskpart is not a secure erase for SSDs only HDDs. You need to use a proper software to secure erase an SSD such as parted magic or hdparm. http://www.overclock.net/t/1227597/how-to-secure-erase-your-solid-state-drive-ssd-with-parted-magic#post_16684060

Thanks very much for the information Sean. So, did I just wear out my SSD even more by writing zeros to the drive? I will read your article since there seems to be a ton of info on there. But before I read, I just want to ask a quick question. Is parted magic and/or hdparm free to use? If not, then that is very unfortunate. Any advice or information is welcomed of course. Thank again Sean.

Also, you have any guess as to why my SSD was having such a slow boot time? Any educated guess at all is welcomed that way I can have an idea of what *might* of happened. Thanks once more!

On more thing, my SSD is faster now, could be faster, but I will tolerate it as another reinstall of the OS and drivers and all my apps is a pain in the neck, so I will leave it be for now. But if I run into trouble again, hopefully by that time I have read your article and will know the proper steps of how to remedy the situation.

I have an idea. You think it would be a good idea to make a back up system image on my HDD and then do a secure erase on my SSD and then reinstall the OS with the system image, so I can save time in installing my drivers and apps? Any ideas? Thanks again and again and again, lol.

Ok after reading your article, I am gonna guess and say that the answer to my question is Yes.

I don't have a spare CD to burn, or a USB drive. Is there a way I can make a bootable partition on my internal HDD with EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition, or any other method to replace the USB flash drive, or no?
