Canon Legria HF R206 record format

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004INGLSK/

I searched through the web but couldn't find the file format this particular camcorder records.

It could be AVCHD but I'm not sure. I really need this info before i decide to purchase.

Also another question about SDHC cards. Thinking of buying a 32GB Class10 SDHC card for the Legria HF R206. I read that SDHC cards are formatted in FAT32 as default and FAT32 can't support files larger than 4GB. So does that mean my camera will stop recording after filesize exceeds 4GB? Can I reformat the card to NTFS and then use it that way?

if you google it or check canons website you would find it there. but just like almost every other camcorder it records video compressed in MPEG AVC/H.264

im not sure why that is important since majority of cameras have adopted that format as it offers the best possible quality with good file sizes. just buy the 32GB card and shoot and enjoy the camera it should not stop recording until the card is full or the battery dies. considering the low bitrate i doubt you will see the camera stop recording because it hit a file size limit. lower bit rates keep file sizes down so you have nothing to worry about.

AVCHD is a commonly accepted format base and will have no problem working in pretty much every video editing program.

all this information can be found on google wink.gif and i dont think that camera is AVCHD but there are camcorders out there by sony or panasonic that offer it if you must have that format. honestly canon is just as good they just prefer h.264

Thanks for the reply. I just found this on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2v3sJXilAI

It is the legria hf r206. at the beginning of video you can see the embedded text on the camera "AVCHD". So i guess it DOES record in AVCHD right?

Yes if there is a sticker on the side of the camera saying avchd then it is lol. I didnt check considering how easy it was to find... I simply guessed based on what canon normally does and did not state my post as fact therefor no need to bold stuff. Just say thanks. The camera you posted records mpeg with h.264 compression codec dont get caught up in fancy letters and stuff worry more about the camera having what you need. Mpeg is the actual format of the files that your computer reads... That is the answer to your question. Youre welcome...
