Internet for servers?

Thread Starter
So, both my girlfriend and I love tech stuff, and our next project we want is to move our minecraft serve to our own server(yes i know cost wise its not the smartest, but its fun!) But we cannot find a decent ISP besides Verison Fios that offers decent upload. thier 25/25 plan is awesome. BUT its not everywhere and we would just like to know if there are any other options out there that are decent for upload(20+)

Anyone know any? I cant find jack around the LA area...

although i cant really say on ISPs in your area or even country..
just that whatever plan you go with make sure they allow you to run a server at home.. i have heard in the US that some ISPs its against their ToS to do so so factor that in when people give you some ideas smile.gif

And verizon residential is one of those companies that say you need business class to run a server FYI. A dude I know runs a website out of his home on verizon fios residential with some behind the scenes port forwarding to make it look to the user like they're on port 80, but his webserver is running on port 59000.

You could run the minecraft server cause it's on non standard ports, and I believe they just block standard ports for FTP, SMTP, HTTP, and HTTPS. Aside from that, you could always rent a server or a VPS and run it remotely for similar monthly cost of high powered interwebz.

To what end? Once you've installed the OS, do you plan on rebooting the server numerous times to add or remove hard drives? My guess is no. I can do anything to my linux server from the command line via SSH from work, or sitting right next to it at home. I've thought about colocating a server before, but can't justify extra $$$ a month to pay for it at this time. Same things goes for a VPS. Once it's setup, no need for editing the HD setup or ram, etc.

I reccomend Comcast business class! Just look at some YouTube videos about Comcast business class and you can see some are reaching (I believe) 36Mb/s upload and 70~mb/s.

If its a not an apartment complex, all areas that are fios served should be able to get 25/25. Even in some apartment complexs, fios is offered at 25mbps is offered.

As far as running a server on a residential fios account, it is against the TOS. Business class 25/25 is typically about $10 more a month and about $30 more than residential service for static ip connections.
