Heh, that thing costs quite a bit. I didn't know anyone else charged more for upgrades than Apple does lol.

Haha, like I said in my first post, a Mac Pro compared to any other premium OEM workstation, isn't overpriced at all.

If we take the hardware that's available in it now (before the "update") it is completely overpriced. It will still be overpriced after the update, but the gap will be smaller.

Overpriced for a consumer desktop yes, but the right price for a workstation.

Custom built vs Mac Pro is very different.

What you fail to factor into the cost is:

1. Warranty
2. Support
3. Better build quality and materials
4. Perfectly matched hardware and software, avoiding the billions of hardware variations that Windows has to deal with

In addition, a touch of personal preference and apathy towards money is also important.

Some people just like to use Macs. Is that wrong?

Some people just like to use Macs. Is that wrong?

1. You get warranty on individual components instead of the whole box.
2. See 1. Also, you still get support for Windows by Microsoft, which would be the most important aspect of support, I reckon.
3. Use a good case and be worth a damn at building and you'll have something very sturdy and lasting, too.
4. How a lower variety of hardware is somehow worth paying more, I cannot fathom. Windows will not have issues with 99% of combinations, anyhow.

Great, now build 20+ in less than 2 business days. The Mac Pro is made mainly for businesses. Businesses always buy in bulk so no matter what you say a Mac Pro will always be chosen over a custom build for a business.

What idiot would spend $200,000 in two days and not have some sort of plan? It would be cheaper to hire a guy to put them together for you for a week or two.

How is this relevant? It would still be cheaper. Do big businesses somehow have less of a desire for stuff to be cheaper?
Local service here assembles your PC and installs an OS of your choice for 200 CHF, they even test everything for compatibility.
How is this not preferable to spending a whole load of cash more on a Mac?

Also, if you're a big business, chances are you've got a somewhat competent IT guy/department anyways.
