Most of the students that were at or near the top of their courses didn't own a mac. Likewise, it isn't the engineering mindset to waste resources that could be better spent somewhere else.

I don't see the point of your sarcasm? It's not like this is an up-to-date system, in which case I would understand, but it's two years old and Apple doesn't drop the price of it over time, and the upgrade prices are only updated when the system is refreshed. Try again after it's refreshed.

I've said time and time again that upgrades from Apple are absurdly exorbitant which is why you should only ever upgrade the CPU or GPU and then buy all the other stuff from a third party. That same rig only costs about $8.1k if you buy the SSDs, RAM and HDDs from a third party, compared to about $14.8k if you don't.
