would you get a logitech g510 for $50

right now, i could buy a brand new logitech g510 for $50 shipped. would you say it's worth it? i know all of you are going to say "blasphemy, get a mechanical keyboard" but i do like the look of the screen, and i've used one before and it was pretty solid.

opinions?

I had the older version, g15 and it was a pretty good keyboard. The screen is really not as useful as I thought it would be (although I do miss having the clock on my keyboard). For $50 it's hard to say no if you like them, but since I got my first mechanical I could never go back. =) All in all that's a good price and if you have your heart set on it I say go for it.

well i'm not positive, i don't know if i should just save my money and buy one of those corsair mechanical keyboards. but spending $100+ on a keyboard, at least for me, seems crazy.

Many people say "once you go mechanical you can't go back" and there is a reason for it. Most people I know after using a mechanical keyboard would never again buy a membrane keyboard. I actually just purchased a Corsair k90 and I really like it. It's easy to clean, the keys feel nice, the muiltimedia buttons and volume slider are convenient. The only things I can complain about it are the G keys and F keys, and all the keys above the arrow pad are still membrane, and my major problem with that is the backlight (at least on mine anyways) is much dimmer on the membrane keys than the mechanical so you can visually see the keys are different. If you use your computer a lot I would say just save up the extra money and get a mechanical keyboard, you won't regret it. Although "what you don't know can't hurt you" and by that I mean, once you go mechanical you're never going to buy a cheap membrane keyboard again, it's always going to be a nice mechanical one. =) I went from a g15 to a blackwidow ultimate, to a k90.

I bought a G15 late last year for $40, and its been great. Screen works well for monitoring Afterburner or Fraps, the programmable keys are pretty versatile, the built in USB ports see a lot of usage (mouse in one, USB charge cord in the other), and the backlight is helpful sometimes if you play in the dark. It was worth it to me, I can only imagine the 510 is an improvement wink.gif

I paid $80 AUD for mine from the Logitech eBay store!

I love it! The only thing i don't like is the excess of "G Keys" i don't use them at all personally..
The screen is great for CPU/RAM usage, the Time and music! It'd be good for emails too, but personally i couldn't be bothered.
I like the RGB backlights too, along with the "Gaming mode" which disables the Windows keys, the modes are cool but kind of useless to me once again.

The play/pause/stop etc is nice, those are soft touch buttons, the volume control is nice and smooth and it feels like you have precise control over it. The backlight on/off is a nice feature too. To be honest the only thing that doesn't work all the time is the "headphone" jacks.. It works half the time untill i use the mute key, then it won't unmute at all... probably software conflicting though.

As for software, it uses the same software as my G400 which is a nice touch, not having to worry about different software. I guess I'm a logitech fan which works out well. (It matches my G400 perfectly) tongue.gif

Keeping in mind the G510 has a massive palmrest.. I took it off recently to clean it and it just looks so much more compact, I couldn't stand not having the palmrest on it!

Oh, and as for Mechanicals, I like them.. But i'd prefer something more silent myself, the soft mechanicals cost loads too. (In Aus anyway).

P.S people say the screen is a "waste" or "not useful" but you get used to it, I went to a friends house with a G110 and i was lost! tongue.gif

If you decide to get the keyboard it's a great deal! If not be sure to grab a good deal on a mechanical! thumb.gif

Not bad price but I really would personally save more for mechanical keyboard.

Screen is cheap-looking. Backlighting is really dim. Keys creak and squeak annoyingly.

I got one for €50 and it's fine, a mechanical one would likely be better but honestly the G510 does the job. I don't even use the software at the moment because I'm a bit OCD about things running on my computer but the screen was handy with everest or AIDA64 because you can show the temperature of everything, CPU usage and memory usage. It's pretty useful. smile.gif

I'm happy with mine and I've tried a few different keyboards, I haven't gone to a mechanical one yet but it's good as rubber-dome and other non-mechanical keyboards go.

Mine hasn't started "creaking" yet.. The backlight isn't that dim and the screen is fine to read in a well lit room. Sure some colours are quite bad, but my presets Red, Blue and Green are fine.
White is the only colour that looks weird on the keyboard, which it sort of ghosts with on the LCD screen. otherwise it's an amazing keyboard!
