What the fudge XFX?

Thread Starter
My XFX 5770, bought from newegg and gifted to me by my wife 3 years ago, is on the fritz. Colored squares on the screen when moving windows around, etc. So, I hopped on the XFX support website, typed in my card information, and explained the situation. The technician said, "well, yeah, it sounds like your card is dead, but it is outside of the 2 year warranty period, so I can't do anything."

What? 2 years? I thought XFX was double-lifetime!

So, using the original newegg item number, 14-150-447, I find the exact card on newegg as discontinued. At the bottom, I find that it indeed advertises a lifetime warranty.

I asked the gentleman if we were looking at the same card, because the one I bought was advertised as coming with a lifetime warranty, not 2 years. He hasn't responded yet.

But what the fudge XFX? Why do you claim the warranty is only good for 2 years on my card when it is advertised as having a lifetime warranty? Anyone else have a similar problem? How did you resolve it?

Even worse, one of my 8800GTs died.

I asked my retailer and they said they had two year warranties. So, I proceeded to open a RMA procedure with XFX, and they said it had one year.

I was exactly like you after that. We never worked out an arrangement.

And on the other side, when I bought the HD5870 it crapped out after six months. Sapphire gave me a new one out right. No questions asked. This second time it crapped, after a year and a half, I got a HD6950 2GB instead.

I'm surprised that the card I got from RMA actually had another two full years of warranty on it.

From the stories I've been reading XFX has the absolute worst warranty support of any company of consumer electronics out there. I think they have an F rating from the better business bureau

Sucks man. I hope they stand by it.

Ive had to RMA something to them and honestly it was painless.. i guess its hit or miss for some people. i mean people cant just expect lifetime warranties out of the box. i dont believe any manufacturer does that. EVGA as well makes you register on the website to get your lifetime warranty.

No I did not. That's BS though - they advertise it with a double-lifetime warranty, and if the customer doesn't know they have to register it to get the lifetime warranty, they're just screwed out of it? I'm going to fight this one tooth and nail. I had no idea the card had to be registered to get lifetime warranty, and they never told me that with any of the paperwork or anything.

Yeah, I was just looking at that. Seems a lot of people had the same type of complaint. Back in 2010, it seems they were making a bunch of "one case exceptions" for people who complained, but not anymore. Probably, they got the F rating, and just said screw it, there's no point in trying anymore.

I'll drive my support ticket up the chain. If I can't get a response there, I'll call them up. If I can't get a response there, I'll ask for a supervisor. If I can't get a response there, I'll ask for a manager. If I can't get a response there, I'll post on the BBB. If I can't get a response there, I'll file a small claims lawsuit against them.

I wonder at what point they'll decide it is no longer worth their time vs just giving me the dang warranty my wife paid for.

Most lifetime warranties have this stipulation. Visiontek does the same too. 30 days or you only get two years iirc. Btw, it's written on their warranty page. And to get the second lifetime you have to had registered to get the code to transfer. Seeing as how it was never registered, shrugs...

**Since it was never registered, man shouldn't have called them. You could have just registered it now lol.

When i bought my parents the XFX One from best buy it said in one of the papers that i did have to register and i believe it even said it somewhere on the back. But you cant say they screwed you because you overlooked something. Because all of my xfx products did say they had to be registered within 30 days or you only get the 2 year warranty. And i have a XFX 6870 as well as a power supply laying around somewhere. Also its not their fault newegg advertises it as Double Lifetime. They should make it clear that its 2 years unless registered than you get the Lifetime Warranty.

Stop losing your time, you havn't registered the card which was promptly written all over the books that you havn't read that came with the card.
It's 2 years unless you do register the card.

At least this card is worth around $75 these days instead of losing your time with them just buy a different brand.

XFX is a good brand, if you were under warranty they would have replaced it.

If someone tell you I'm selling this to you and I offer you double lifetime warranty on it, wouldn't read about that warranty first ?
