I personally don't plan to purchase another seagate any time soon. Had 3 crap out on me

I personally would get the WD blue. The blues and blacks are very similar in speed, just the black had more warranty

Western Digital drives have always been regarded as more reliable. The Blacks also carry a 5-year warranty, while all Seagate Barracudas only offer a 1-year warranty now. I'd personally go for the WD if you can afford it.

I personally prefer the Samsung F3 tb. They are a bit cheaper then the Caviar Black and are about equal to the Caviar Blacks.

The Hitachi are very fast (never bought one) but the WD blue and black are similar in speeds. And WD make great drives so I'd not pay $35 more for a black over a blue.

Yeah, but now they're manufactured by Seagate and have a Samsung logo stamped on. Not the same as those wonderful F3 1TB's we're used to. wink.gif

Correction: The Hitachi 7K1000.D is very fast - but every time you go back a letter the performance drops off a lot. .C matches a modern Green drive, and .B performance is laughable.

Can't say which is the better buy. The Seagate is likely faster, but the warranty is awfully short and reliability is unknown.

Also, they do have some firmware issues, like randomly disappearing from your BIOS... and some people received ones that make strange chirping or clicking noises.

I'm using the Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM3 right now, no problems here. The scores are actually higher than you might think a HDD can reach
