Dammnn..you guys are lucky...my chip isn't as good...I hit 80C in Prime95 at 4.4ghz....and my air cooling is GREAT.

wow, thats pretty awesome temps. what fans were you running on it?

4.5 is what i want to be able to hit with temps lower that 70c. Should be arriving sometime today, What temps are considered dangerous for a CPU? Anything over 80?

my advice would to keep it under 85*C preferable 80 with some moments it may go over 80 smile.gif

^ I agree. 80C max temp on Prime95...85C max temp on IBT....that would be as high as I would go myself. But everyone is different.

FYI - In game it only goes up to 60C

EDIT: Just just notice you have i5 2500k and not 3570k...so perhaps 5C less than I stated above? not sure...but 80C sounds good.

I would run Prime 95 for 12 hours to check for stability, and then go for it. I know that cpu's can appear stable for short bursts, but crash over a longer period.

I haven't tried going higher. (Not sure why, just don't feel the need.)

I was looking for a cooler in the same price range about two months ago, and after reading many reviews online, I concluded that Scythe Mugen and Ninja are probably the best coolers for that price and even better than many more expensive ones. Furthermore, even the best air coolers in the market may only be marginally better than these two even though they may cost twice as more. I can soon report the CPU's temperature in my newly built system if you are interested.
Scythe Mugen & Ninja are not bad coolers but will be at least 5c hotter then the top coolers on 130w CPUs .pushing for maximum OC.

I have Phanteks, NH-U12P and Zaward Vapor 120.
Have ran first two extensively on my system and Phanteks is 9-10c cooler (69c before, now 59c) on i7 920 2.66Ghz OCed to 3.5GHz running Prime. Same case, same orientation, even same fans. More pipes and surface area usually means more cooling ability.

I use the Zaward Vapor 120 on wife's Athlon II x4 620 2.6GHz OCed to 3.5GHz running prime at 46c no problem. 85w cpu not 130w like i7 920

Lower watt CPU doesn't need as much cooling wink.gif

Update: I did a test and here is my results:

I let the Prime runs for more 2 and half hours. My system consists of two Xeons X5670 2.93GHz 110W processors in a MM U2-UFO in horizontal setting cooled by two Scythe Mugen 3. My CPU temperatures rise to 60 and 56 (average of cores). There is only one fan on each CPU: GT 1800rpm pushing air in. The fans actually don't run at their full rpm. One runs at about 1450rpm while the other one runs at 1200rpm. I don't know why they are running at different rpm's which I guess can explain the temperature difference between the two CPU's. Ambient temperature was about 21C

If any one has tried other coolers on similar CPU, let me know what temperature they get under load. I doubt anything significantly better on any other cooler as long as there is only one fan installed (similar fan, similar rpm).

Nice results.thumb.gif

Could you possibly post a pic or two of you rig?
