Fixing pc need help DDR2

So my girlriend has an old PC she bought 3 years ago from a large furniture/computer like warehouse store, I'm guessing it was probably sitting in the shop for a few years aswell.

It came with Vista, a few months ago I upgraded the graphics card to a GF-470, last week it started blue screening. Being vista I immediately assumed it was memory problems. Ran memtest86 v1.70 on a linux mint "Gloria" (yeah it's old) disk I had, as windows memtest failed to boot.

There was many problems after a few hours of running, so I turned it off and stuck in some old DDR2 800mhz sticks I had, now I know these did work last year when I was using them, however the PC failed to boot, when I tried to use my old mobo it also failed so I'm not sure if the sticks are good. (Realistically they should be)

memtest shows the PC as:
Athlon 64 x2 2799mhz
L1: 128k 5700 MB/s
L2: 1024k 5700 MB/s
Memory: 2815Mb 1853 MB/s
Chipset: AMD K8 : disabled
Settings: 399 mhz (DDR799) / CAS 6-6-6-18 / DDR-2 (64 bits)

Is this simply underclocked ram that would normally run @ 800mhz? or is there any more info you guys need that would tell me exactly what kind of ram this is?

My choices for buying DDR2 RAM from the local PC shop are:

G.Skill DDR2 4G(2x2G)PC6400 800Mhz(F2-6400CL5D-4GBNT) @ $56.00
G.Skill DDR2 4G(2x2G)PC8500 1066Mhz Heatspreader(F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK) @ $79.00
or
Corsair 2GB (Single Stick) Value Select PC-5300 (667MHz) @ $35.00 x2 = $70.00

It sounds like you're ready to throw away money on relatively worthless last generation parts that may not fix the problem. Unless you're absolutely certain that the problem is with the RAM (after testing with working RAM), I wouldn't bother upgrading this computer. Given the cost of DDR2 RAM compared to DDR3, I would just buy a cheap CPU/motherboard/RAM combo. If you're ready to go really cheap, you can probably piece something together for not much more than $100 that will be more powerful than whatever she's currently running and will last longer.

Sorry if this isn't the answer you wanted but it's what I would do.

When you say it failed to boot on other DDR2 sticks, you mean from memtest or Windows Vista?

Unless you are certain the problem lies with DDR2, it will be better to do a full upgrade instead.

No sorry I mean failed to post. No bios at all. I'm thinking I may just have to upgrade for her, but it seems wierd now I've been running memtest without the graphics card plugged in for 6 hours 20mins now and not a single error has reported.
