Help - strange problem with multiplier stuck at 36 with IB 3750k and Asrock Z77 Extreme 4

Been overclocking my Ivy Bridge for the last few days slowly increasing multiplier and adjusting offset voltage, testing and tweaking. Cooling with water i got it to 4.7 and it seemed pretty stable.

Then it crashed, now I can boot and everything seems fine but i can't manually adjust the multiplier beyond 36, and even if i choose some of the preset overclocks all cpu-z sees is a 36x100 under load.

Am I missing something, or is something not working properly any more? Bios is 1.7 (latest).

What I would try, is first reset the UEFI/BIOS to the Safe Default Values, restart, start UEFI again and try it again then.
Make sure SpeedStep and Turbo technologies are both enabled. smile.gif

Did try exactly what you said, wasn't sure if i'd reset to default and then restarted so tried it as you said, but no joy.
Both Speedstep and turbo are enabled. Thanks for responding by the way smile.gif

I've cleared CMOS using button on rear of mobo back panel, also left overnight with clear CMOS jumper on clear, also removed battery. It still seems to have this memory of a 47 multiplier no matter how much i try and clear it.

Feel like i've tried all the things I can think of but I bet there's something I'm overlooking.

Just for all certainty: is your multiplier locked as in disabled/you can't edit it, or is it like everytime you change it and boot into windows, it just doesn't appear to be working?

It's weird, I can edit it but when I click to save or move to a different field it reverts the value back to a maximum of 36.

It was working, and I know when idling/browsing it lowers the multiplier to 16 or so, but then under load (ITB/Prime) it'll go up.

If I enable Turbo 30 mode (different to normal turbo mode) I can select some default overclock speeds up to 4.6ghz. Whichever of those I select it still shows a 36 multiplier under load.

I just began having this same problem with a i5-2500K and an Asrock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 with the multiplier unable to go above 37 when it was rock stable for the last 6 months at 43. Any ideas?

It appears that if you are having this multiplier lock problem you have to flash your bios to the newest version and change the core settings from AUTO to PER CORE. It appears that if updating your Bios and changing the core settings from "AUTO" to "PER CORE" doesn't work. Your only other option is to send the board in for rma.

That is what I am going to do now. Do you think the CPU have something to do with this?
