[Tom's] MarketWatch Slams Windows 8, Calls it Unmitigated Disaster - Page 18

Remember to believe the guy that runs the Windows 8 fanclub that it's "faster and more productive" (two subjective things). Because he wants to laugh in your faces when it's successful. Reallll mature.

Meanwhile, in reality. I'm holding out for the ability to by-pass Metro and the Metro marketplace.

It is faster than Windows 7 out of the box, from my experience and some benches I've seen, but not by much. As for being more productive, I don't think so, unless you're on a tablet.

I didn't really notice much difference but I know the improvements under the hood are worth it. There's a lot of stuff I like about the OS, but Metro isn't one of them, neither is the planned marketplace. Both are not desktop friendly.

Yes,

because Microsoft shouldnt cater for touch interfaces, or have an application market where you can easily find apps for that touch interface.

Because OCN users should put words into your mouth that you didn't say thumb.gif

Cause, I never said that at all. It's obviously a tablet/touch friendly OS and it's a step in the right direction (can't wait to see Win 8 tablets) but there's no way in hell that this should be on desktops anywhere.

I for one, will not be using Windows 8. At the office where I work we still have some machines with Windows XP on them. We certainly wont be using Windows 8 as we've just upgraded half of our machines to Windows 7.

And that mean they can (try to) shove it down our throat. thumb.gif

At least the launch and the inevitable subsequent events that follow will be fun to watch. biggrin.gif

arnt they already doing that?

the funny thing is most of us is voluntarily bending over and pulling apart their butt cheeks welcoming the micro"shaft" and thanking them for it.

i know there are heaps of sheeps willingly walk into a slaughterhouse to join the rest of the turtlenecks

as a future sys/network admin i can see a dark future ahead of me

It isn't either, though. Compared to a sanely altered start menu it's merely a waste of space. (ie. Does much of the same thing in much more room)

Because OS X's GUI changed dramatically when iOS came out on the iPhone, right?
Same thing, I can get Androids GUI on my Linux install and plenty of people use it..right?

There's absolutely no point in having the same GUI over 2-3 platforms; Apple get it right in that you have it similar but still tailored to whichever platform you're currently on, MS seem to be doing what the Windows Team did for most of the 80s and are copying Apple but in a poor fashion. (Yes, Apple stole the GUI from Xerox, but they also innovated with overlapping Windows and rounded corners)

That's pretty much what you are saying, without Metro Windows 8 would be essentially Windows 7. I mean honestly it would be exactly Windows 7 with core improvements... Why is your logic failing so hard?
