Looking for ideas on sealing sections of the STH10.

Hi all, I dont know if this forum is strictly for customer/merchant q&a. If it is, then someone will let me know to move this thread.

I got the STH10, which I absolutely love. The last case I will ever buy.

But I would like to seal the bottom and top sections from each other and from the mobo section.
Anyone has any idea on how I could do this cleanly?

The bottom rads will push air out the sides and I want them to use the bottom of the case as intake. I dont want the lower section to pull down air from the rest of the case.

Same goes for the top rads/section. Only the top rads will be pulling from the sides and I want that air to exaust throught the top, and not get pushed down into the other sections below.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Sure, I could duct tape it all a la Red Green but I want it all to look a little more clean than that.

I thought there already were plates to seal this? covers for the 3 x 120mm fans, and then a cover for the drive bay notch?

The plates should seal most of it, but there will be a gap between the door and the mid chassis plates. Some strips of soft 3/4" thick foam glued to the door should solve that wink.gif

Okay, the botton rads will push to the sides out. I would like them to pull in from the botton panel (removed). But they will probably end up sucking some air from the top section via the right side section behind the mobo.

Same with the top rads, only they will be pulling air from the sides and ideally pushing out throught the top vented panel. But without that right side section sealed, I am afraid the air will get sucked in from the top rads, pushed down into the lower rads and pushed out there.

The mobo section is pretty well isolated from the rest, it's the top and bottom sections that can communicate air.

But hell, I think I worry too much, I will prolly put some wood panel at the roof of the bottom panel to block it from sucking air from the top tads.
I just don't want it to look too getto.

You could make extensions that attach to the side covers and attach them with countersink rivets so the door doesn't interfere.

Not sure it will make that much difference but I would cut or get cut a 2mm thick rectangular aluminium strip to cover the gap, powder coat it white and use 2 or 4 tiny Neodymium magnets to hold it in place, obviously sticking one magnet to the case and one to the plate with double sided tape. You can then easily remove the plate at will. Here in the UK to get this done would prob cost around £20 or so but give a nice clean (removable) solution.

no sure what difference it would make though being that you are goign to be watercooling it....

but maybe this problem is just escaping me....

off topic:

I see stren is from San Diego and Jim and Kevin are both LA.....I am in Bakersfield......i guess that makes me the hick of those that I see here on this part of the forums so far....

that always happens to me....

Oh well, I may get a chance to move to carlsbad if I get that position with Taylormade or Callaway......but then again I may get a job up here for some oil company

The way the case is built, I would be sucking in air via the top rads, then some of that air would be pushed down to circulate into the botom rads. How much, I dont know, but some air would be re-used.

Generally, it is bad practice to use ambiant air warmed up and re-used inside the case: the second rad is handicapped from the air warmed up by the first rad..... nowattamean?

Now, by no means should this be construded as criticism of the case. It is by far the best case I ever laid my hands on, and I have seen a few. Even Jim can't be all things to all builders..... tho it gets pretty close with the STH10 IMHO.

Ah I see now you meant the back door cable routing space. Sounds like you'll have to mod it and that the mod isn't too bad. At some point there's always going to be a gap left in order to route tube and cables. Maybe it could be smaller though I suppose. With my TX10 the majority of the air for the top mounted mora's come from the side panels, not the tube routing area. I can't tell how exactly how much, but i know the dust build up is way higher on the side panels smile.gif

Believe me the oil companies there will pay more and the houses are way cheaper. So it depends what's important to you wink.gif I live very close to carlsbad. You can pay 800K for a smallish 3br that's nothing special mad.gif
