Building My 1st Build Tomorrow | Any Advice?

Thread Starter
Hi. I'm going to be building a C2D system tomorrow. I have all my parts bought and all. It's my first build so I will be taking my time to build it (6-10 hrs). Anyone have any advice or tips for a noob builder? I.e. Don't let mobo contact bottom of the case.

You can let hte mobo touch the bottom of the case if you want...lol. Just make sure you use the standoffs when you screw it down.

Honestly, even if you take your time...it'll take less than an hour to put it all together.

Tip 1 - Put the Optical drives in first. Then put the PSU...(but keep the wires away from everything) Then you install your motherboard and everything else....and connect the IDE cables...POWER IS LAST. That way, you can make sure the cables are nice and hidden.

Tip 2 - Ram only goes in one way....make sure you line up the slots that "cuts the pins in half"

That's about it...

PC magazines seem to preach about "grounding yourself for static" Well, unless you're wearing a wool sweater and dragging your wool socks across a carpet, then going straight to plug in a graphics card, it won't matter. I always do my builds standing on linoleum or tile florrs to avoid to odd charge that may ruin stuff, so that may be a consideration, too. Don't put the door on the case until you've booted and gotten all the way into Windows. If you do, something will inevitably go wrong, and you'll have to open it up again anyway.

No, I've let a mobo touch the bottom of a case and nothing happened. Unless the PC was on or something dumb like that, nothing should have happened to it.

Yea thats what I meant. So never have mobo touching bottom of case while turned on right? I got another question, for cable management, where can I hide all the cables and wiring?

In the empty drive bay, areas of your case the window doesn't show, etc. Or, if you're lucky, under the mobo is a good place if the wires will fit.

Wires can be hidden behind the mobo (between mobo and mobo tray, thin wires only!) or BEHIND the mobo tray.

My Armour has a damn good sized gap between the back of the mobo tray and sidepanel, so i hide my wires behind there.

Mine would be to check the colour of your case lights before you buy

I found this out only after i can completed my build. In the information about my case said 'blue' LED lights on the front for when the HDD was working but they turned out to be PINK!!

So i got a combination of blue, purple, and then only pink flashes. LOL
