Warning/Help (but i doubt it)...

So I just picked up an E6600 to get ready for some super happy fun time overclocking. Also picked up a new mobo as I have been an Amd fanboy for quite sometime. New Ram too obviously cause I needed fancy ddr2 instead of my old corsair pro LL normal ddr.

The new parts consist of this.

Corsair Dominator pc2-8888 2x1GB
E6600
Asus P5N32Sli Premium.

Previously installed and read to rock parts include:
2x 7950 gx2 Evga cards. = quad sli
Audigy XFI Music extreme soundcard.
Silverstone tj07 Case
Silverstone ST85ZF PSU 850watts (their new king of the hill)
2x 74gb Raptors raid 0
2x 250gb seagates .10's raid 0

So the reasoning behind my choice of mobo's should be obvious. Need the 32 lanes for the quad sli. However choosing the new n590 chipset was absolutly stupid. unless i have missed something which is the point of this thread.

Heres the lowdown.

I cant overclock it. Not even 5 mhz. It will crash and even at 100% default settings it sometimes crashes on its own and my favorite is that it NEVER boots correctly. It boots then refuses to post. Then I hard reset and reboot and it will post.

So, do I trash the board and get an intel chipset based board? Or is there some secret Im missing here. I have done a bunch of research on this particular board and pretty much 80% of people hate it cause they cant even push past 2.9 ghz, when on the intel chipset the same chip can reach 3.9 ghz.

Any help or comments would be lovely.

But thanks for reading nontheless.

Ugh....Your RAM is a pearl....and the 590 chipset is the swine. I would just keep this as it is and upgrade the MoBo to the 6XX series Nvidia chipset when it comes out. Then, that thing will really fly.

OR...trash the board and one of the video cards. Get a P5B Delux and HAUL A$$. Then, when the Nvidia 6XX comes out and the reviews are positive, go back to SLI and plug back in your second GPU.

yeah thats what i was thinking, tbh i even contemplated trashing both cards getting xfire and going to the new board later.

yeah the ram is straight up insane. so expensive but well worth it.

Its sli certified but the second i turn on the sli sensing part of the mobo it wont boot cause of how high it turns up the fsb.

any tricks you think i can pull ? i have gone through ever little auto overclocking feature and turned it off. but i still can even push it 5-10 hz without it failing.

Those NV series chipsets are unusually sensitive to the type and speed of the RAM. You might have better luck with some native DDR2667 or DDR2800 RAM.

Seriously...consider the SLI setup. You will get WAY more bang for your buck if you leverage that amazing RAM in a P5B Deluxe mainboard and sacrifice one of the GX2's until the 6XX SLI boards come out.

awesome. i think ill do that. from the look of your rig it would appear your using the same mobo that i am. im interested to know how you got yours cranked up so high. also do you have a thread with pics of your rig?

thanks for helping so much.

Water cooling on the CPU and video cards. I had to back off the RAM to 667 as the system was showing signs of instability. Keep in mind, I'm using the NV4 chipset. You have the newer, better model. Also, my 950D comes clocked higher than a Conroe. So, 4.25ghz is not unusual.

No pics. My watercooling job and wiring was such a mess, I didn't bother taking any show-off pics.

well i have a water kit sitting by the comp right now. I wanted to see how far I could get on air. do you think that cranking the voltage up a bit to see what happens?
Yeah. Definitely. The NB and FSB termination voltages need to be upped to get an overclock to work on that Mainboard. Watch the NB temps.
