4x4???

i keep hearing about the letters after the opteron like DNSM and one is better then the other, and clarification?
The 4X4 will be a special chipset for socket F, which supports the 2200 series opterons (up to 2 of them). The socket Am2 opterons are similar to an FX series processor of the same speed. The next socket F opterons that are to be released will be rebranded to the FX series.

sounds good, but is the 165 opteron the best overclocker? how does the 170,180 190 or whatever compare to the x2 series, and how far will the opty 165 with best stepping goes (compared to another opteron, like over clocking a 165 to be the equivalent of a 175)

Wow... we just got spammed hard...

Everyone seems to like the 165. It may clock to 3.0 ghz if you're fortunate, and that would make it decidedly faster than an FX-60, or any Opteron for that matter.

i love the sound of that, but what about the am2 opterons? they have numbers like 1218 and stuff, how are the stepping on those? cause im saving for a DX10 Opteron or C2D build, and i love overclocking.

Look at the link I sent you, I believe that the majority of great oc'ers are the 165's with good steppings.

170's, I haven't followed, but if you get a 165, you have to be sure you have a mobo that can handle 300+ FSB, along with some good RAM. because the 165's have a multi locked @ x9, unlocked below that though, and the 170's are x10, 175 are x11, 180's are x12.

So..yea

I got my 165 a week ago and have only tweaked it a lil' bit and I'm @ 2.8+ so far
with the stock AMD cooler. I really like the ease at which this cpu oc's. Plus you still have the 2x1mb cache.

how about the AM2 opterons, i want to get a DDR2 DX10 setup, so how good are they? is there an equivlant of a 165 for am2? i only saw the 4 digit numbers like 1218 instead of 165 on the am2 opterons
