So I have a choice between a Caviar green 3TB 5400RPM HDD or a Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200RPM HDD.

Which one would you get?

The 7200rpm one unless you're concerned about power usage (even though the difference is pretty much negligible.)

Don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure I heard/read Seagate recently acquired Samdung I mean Samsung's hard drive division. I've had so many Samsung drives fail on me and them not honor their warranty that I have sworn off anything to do with Samsung. If this is true I personally will never buy another Seagate drive out of the fear that I will be getting a rebranded samsung drive.

Caviar green 3TB 5400RPM HDD for storage would be my choice, a more reliable drive than the seagate and you will not lose out that much on performance for storage

Then I'd go with the WD. I like their drives better, only reason I bought a Seagate was due to a wicked sale at MicroCenter awhile ago.

Western digital for me as well. If you ever do run into a problem with the drive, RMA is better with western digital. WD RMA goes something like this: Call/submit a RMA om the website. They send you drive, you pack your old/dead drive back into that box and shipping label is already there.

Seagate RMA goes something like this: Call/submit your RMA. You pay for the drive to be shipped, they ship you a drive back. This process is much slower, and costs a few bucks to ship the drive.

This IMO makes WD RMA is cheaper, and faster.

I have owned several seagate drives, and have not had problems with any of them. I would also go for the faster 7200RPM.
