Great to hear that Red Hat got this worked out. I'm thinking it's only a matter of time until spoofing these keys will be possible.

Something to do with taxes.

I thought it was a business thing to put 99 instead of 100 because it makes people think its cheaper than it is, so 1999$ would look way cheaper than $2000 even though its only 1$, and it just kind of stuck

i think it's more of the fact that if you price it as 99.75,you'd be forced to log in on the cash register to give the quarter change on the one who bought it. But yeah it is connected to taxes since when you log it in there, you get taxed for it.thumb.gif

Actually he was right, it's a standard retail practice to make prices seem lower. The only time a 9 has to do with taxes is the 9/10th of a cent added to gasoline prices.

So are there any potential downfalls to just disabling secure boot in UEFI and not bothering about importing the public keys and keeping it turned on? And will motherboard manufacturers ship their boards with Microsoft's keys in place?

Explain it to me like I'm 12 please. rolleyes.gif

I think that it should be Microsoft that pays these security extortion fees for the Linux keys.
Since it is them that came up with this.
The Linux distros should pay the $99 in pennies for this security extortion fee.

Let's see, it was some Microsoft keys that were used for the Stuxnet, Flame problems.
Real secure....unless they were in it to begin with........

The other question would be, would distributions such as Mint that are based off of Ubuntu be using the same key?
I would think so.

I'm confused... isn't windows 8 just windows CE 8? AKA Windows Compact Edition 8? Like for phones and cars and stuff? Not for the desktop PC.
