[BUILD LOG] It's either beer or this... (Arc Mini mod)

After many agonizing years of console gaming, I finally managed to scrape enough dough for a decent rig. I haven't been playing pc games after LOTRO: Mines of Moria came out, so it's sure been a while. I was planning on waiting for a few more weeks, but since Diablo 3 came out and my friends are one short of 4, I decided that a few weeks isn't going to matter (I hope).

Specs:
Fractal Design Core 1000 Fractal Design Arc mini
Intel core i5-3570k
ASRock Z77 Extreme4-M
MSI HD7870 Twin Frozr III OC
2x4Gb Mushkin Radioactive 1600mhz
WD Caviar Blue 1Tb
Antec Kühler H20 620 w/ Bitfenix Spectres P/P
Super Flower Golden Green Modular 500W

Things to do:
- Get an SSD
- Paint the front mesh (orange?)
- Cable management
- Antec Kühler bracket from Dwood

I won't be doing any mods, at least for the time being. Might do some painting but that depends on how lazy I become after I manage to get everything up and running.
I'll be taking pics of pretty much everything so the log will likely be picture heavy.

Current progress:

DAY 1

Got most of the stuff. Just missing the cpu cooler, HDD and a few fans. I sure hope they'll be here tomorrow, or otherwise I'll have one boring weekend.
I'll be taking unboxing pics tomorrow, it's close to midnight already.

I took the case apart just so I could have a look around it. Everything went smooth until the very last thumbscrew which decided to get stuck. It didn't loosen nor tighten, just spun in its hole. I spent good 15 minutes trying to get it off with screwdriver and pliers, both of which didn't work. I had to run in to our carage to get bigger pliers and force the thing out. I don't know if the threads were damaged before, but they sure are now:

Subbed!
I'm really curious how the temps will be for the i5 3570K. I'm considering it for an upgrade I will purchase soon.

I would say don't get a 620 with the bitfenix fans... how much is that? you can get better cooling and morefor that same amount of money! (i bet)

The 620 costs the same as NH-L12 and AXP-140. I was having a hard time choosing between L12 and Kuhler, but I took the Antec because it'll make the case a lot tidier than the L12. And even though I love overclocking, this build has to be silent 'cause it's going to run pretty much 24/7. So I bought silent fans and will overclock as high as I can with the cooling I have. Besides, it's the GPU clocks that the games care about wink.gif

Glad you got the thumb screw out in the end, they do seem to have the torque set to high on the tools they use at factory when putting in the screws in the FD cases. I had 2 tricky ones to get out in my Arc Midi case, luckily for me all the threads seem ok still.

If you want silence have a look at the Noiseblocker PK-1 or PK-2 (140mm), PL-1 or PL-2 (120mm) the PK-1 & PL-1 run silent and the other 2 are very quite at full speed. I'm using the PK-3 in my case which are fairly loud at full but I want that head room and will be using a FC to run them slower for non demanding tasks.

UPDATE: DAY 2

it's roughly 7:20pm atm. I picked the last parts from the post office at 11am, and probably broke a few speed limits while I rushed back home.

Unfortunately I had ordered the wrong 92mm fan, so I'm running exhaustless atm... 2 spectres, antec 620 and the WD caviar blue 1Tb were fine though.

After about hour and a half, it looked like this. Note my pretty legs in the second pic.

And after 40 more minutes I had most of the cables in relatively good order so I decided to fire it up to make sure everything was still working fine.
rO8cN.jpg

Since everything was working as well as it could, considering that I had forgotten to buy a 3pin splitter for the rad fans, I ziptied everything up.

Much better with the HDD plate attached biggrin.gif

During heaven my 7870 @ 1150/1300 (+100/+100) maxed out in the high 70's with the fan spinning at 70%.

They're fine. Audible, but not loud or anything @100%.
