DVI-D (digital) to VGA (analog)? - Page 2

You need this: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8192868&CatId=384

Standard DVI adapters just pass thru a digital signal, all they serve for is a change of interface. This adapter will actually convert to an analog VGA for older monitors.

If this is your only option, thats fine, but I highly recommend upgrading to up to date technology. Legacy hardware is always harder to fine and more expensive to maintain.

If you are looking to go from a digital DVI-D to VGA analog you will need an active converter. You can;t use cheap adapters as they don't do digital to analog video signal conversion. I would recommend checking Part # ( SCA-DVI-ANA or SCA-DVI-ANA-UN).

The four pins on the right on the DVI-I port (2 above and two below the spade) are the analog output. the DVI to VGA adapter taps those pins to provide an analog signal to the vga device. The DVI-D does not have those pins so there is no analog signal to to be used so as previous people have mentioned, you would need an active converter to change it to an analog signal.
