With computers the wait is not worth it unless the release is really immediate (max 2 weeks away). There is always next great thing being hyped about, especially if its 6 months down the road. Take, for example, Bulldozer - great amount of hype, some people waited for it only to be rather disappointed .. granted a bit extreme example but makes a good point.
