It's going to be a Tesla chip. So far there is zero indication from Nvidia it will make it into the GeForce line. Two schools of thought are either that Nvidia is going to be releasing small died GeForce cards from here on out with compute stripped out a la the 680. Or they are going to release GK110 as a Tesla card and the leaky/bad dies that don't make the cut for Tesla will turn into the 780.

Personally I believe the former. I think AMD would be best served to up the ROPs on the 8970 as that seems to be the big bottleneck with the 7970. Increase the clock speed by a good amount and scale the die up a bit with an improved 28nm node and you will have a pretty mean GPU.

25-30% increase is what I am hoping for. Launch it at a better price then they did with the 7970 and I'd be all over it.

May I ask, why is the GCN so inefficient on tahiti? IS it because the 32 ROPs?

When compared to pitcairn.

I wouldn't really call GCN inefficient. AMD lost the power efficiency 'crown' this time around though because they heavily invested in compute and Nvidia completely stripped it out.

I couldn't tell you on a technical level why Pitcairn is so much better in this regard (other then it's smaller) but less powerful cards are always more efficient. Law of Diminishing returns I guess.

And I know it will be a tesla chip. But the next 7XX series either have to be maxwell(Which I doubt) or a better kepler. I believe a gk 110 is more realistic than maxwell.

If AMD is releasing these this soon, AMD better step up the gear.
Which means,...
After less than a year of buying my HD 6950, I will be left in the dust... sad-smiley-002.gif

aren't they always like that?
same as cpus. new models every year

But it is GCN's computing feature being actually supported? I doubt the catalyst driver will help a lot.

OpenCL I think is pretty widely supported but not as much as CUDA. I'm not the dude to ask those question to however.
