MSI Afterburner limits to low (7850)

Thread Starter
I just purchased a 7850 and started to OC it but the limits on MSI afterburner seem WAY lower then they should be. Is there any way to force the core clock limit higher?

Here's what I do to unlock my Afterburner limits, except this is on a HD 7950 so I'm not 100% this will work for you. Give it a try and let me know smile.gif

1. Download Asus GPU Tweak from here: http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?p=9&m=GPU+Tweak&hashedid=n%2fa

2. Install it. After doing that open it and click advanced mode

3. Go settings > tuning > then check-mark the box for "Overclocking range enhancement"

4. Click apply, then uninstall the program

5. Open Afterburner and your limits should be a lot higher

Unlocked AB limits hd 7950

It's easier my way. tongue.gif

On your MSI AB shortcut, add -xcl to the end of it. So it should say "C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner\MSIAfterburner.exe" -xcl

Open it up. It'll then say clock limits have been extended, please restart. Restart, remove the xcl. Startup MSI AB. Enjoy.

Didn't that method stop working on the newer releases? It is far easier it seem's, but it didn't work for when I tried it

Worked for me on my 7970 and version 2.2.1 MSI AB / CCC version 12.4 WHQL. Not sure if there's anything newer.

Don't forget, if you have zero core issues, then use profiles. wink.gif Set a stock profile, and an overclocked profile. Set the stock to 2D, set the overclocked to 3D (all within MSI AB's settings). Remove screensavers (as that'll set you to 3D). That should fix any zero core issues.

I know, kind of off topic, but its a known bug I've been fighting against using the above method since I got my 7970 in January.

None of those worked. The option wasn't even there in Asus GPU Tweek.
