AMD FX 8120 + Geforce GTX 680 Gaming Performance - Page 2

Looks like the only seriously CPU limited game is MW3; or perhaps it's hampered by memory (video or otherwise) bandwidth.

Skyrim's CPU/GPU utilization looks iffy because the frame rate limiter.

I wouldn't really have expected a 4.8GHz FX to be limiting much at realistic game play settings, but a more conservatively clocked one might. Crysis 2 looks pretty borderline, and BF3's CPU utilization is up there as well.

Yeah, it's definitely the case that many games show very limited CPU relevance. The big CPU-dependent benches I know about are: SC2, Shogun 2: Total War, and the largest multiplayer BF3 maps.

Skyrim is not coded for multiple threads and doesn't use any cpu optimizations (sse2/3, AVX et) and offloads shadow detail rendering onto the CPU. So really you're only going to see 1 core being utilized which is why the 2500K/2600K do better in skyrim because of higher single core performance.

BF3 on the other hand is not CPU intensive at all and GPU performance is far more critical (as is available PCIE bandwidth and GPU mem bandwidth)

http://www.techspot.com/review/458-battlefield-3-performance/page7.html

All you need to play BF3 at max is a 4GHz quad core and a really good GPU.

Edit - I would however expect to see some of those dual cores in the list to dip significantly during a massive multiplayer map.

Skyrim is using at least four threads in the OP's test. Not that it matters, as the game isn't particularly demanding.

I am using aida64 and fraps to gather and log performance data to csv files. The the data is then taken into MS excel and made into graphs.

It's normal, what is not normal is high cpu usage and low gpu usage, nice benchmarks though mate.

Blameless, skyrim's multithreading or lack thereof is just what I've gathered by digging around. Let's put it to the test though since now I'm really curious. My motherboard has the option to disable one "core" per module. With that enabled each "core" then has full access to all resources in the module without competing with another "core". That will essentially make my 6100 a "true triple core" CPU. I'll post the screenshots from skyrim here in a little bit.
