Long story short:
A few years ago my girlfriend dropped the external HDD while it was active (readin/writing stuff)
It never worked again, and when plugged in (usb) it was very very VERY slow.
After some google I came across data recovery tools. They worked but also very slow (a few DAYS for 10 files or so... --> so I skipped that part...)
Now for some reason I figured... Let's open the box and see!
It's a WD Caviar SE from 250GB connected via IDE.
So I connected it into my previous pc via IDE SLAVE (Master is ODD)
When I booted PC it started normal, a bit slower, until windows 7 logo appears.
Then CHKDSK wanted to do 3 stages so I did.
Stage 1/3 was File Record Segment stuff and after a while it finished with lots of bad sectors etc...
Stage 2/3 it tried to do other stuff but it stayed for a looong time on 66% so I rebooted the PC...
Now I skipped the cHKDSK stuff and it booted into Win7
I can see the disk when I open "Computer"
I can acces the data stored into the HDD but also it takes a while...
But when I try to open some things it will not work... Does not react warnings etc
But offcourse I would LOVE to copy/paste the data to a working HDD into my PC...
