Dell Ultrasharps at 1080p?

Anyway...

I would like to purchase a 24" monitor to use with my laptop. Unfortunately, my "top of the line" video card, ATI 6990m, doesn't support more than 1080p externally. mad.gif My dual link DVI output only uses a single output signal. I have never seen these monitors in person and was wondering how bad the 24" Ultrasharp would look at 1080p.

I guess I could order the U2312 instead since it is only capable of 1080p. Still I want the 24" tho.

On another note, does the base COMPLETELY remove from the monitor to allow VESA mounting? Many monitors say VESA mounting, but the vertical stand never comes off the monitor. grrr....

Thank you for your help in this matter.

P.S. I, also, will be probably be removing the AG film from my monitor. Are all Ultrasharps capable of this or only certain models?

They don't look bad @ 1080 but better at 1200 smile.gif
Very strange that it supports a max of 1080 though?...

I will never leave Dell IPS monitors; I had the 24” now the 30” – they are fantastic!

With regards to wall mounting, the stand does completely clip off the back (very easily) and, although I haven’t see the wall mount, I'd imagine clipping it on to one is just as easy.

Edit: typo corrected

If you're only going to use 1080p, buy the 23" model. Unless you want to stretch your image (which the u2412m would do, since it doesn't support 1:1 for 1920x1080), you won't lose almost any size. comparison. A GPU can handle scaling for it if it supports 1920x1200. Otherwise you'll have to rely on the monitors scaling, which doesn't work on the u2412m if you're planning on using 1920x1080.

The stand is removable. In fact, the monitor and the stand aren't attached when you receive the monitor. You'll connect them yourself when you get the monitor.

You don't want to do the AG removal. It's incredibly risky even during the procedure, not to mention the polariser slowly degrading during use afterwards because there's nothing protecting it. You'll essentially guarantee that your monitor won't be in perfect shape in a few months time. And yes, all ultrasharps are viable for the mod.

I knew that the procedure was very risky. I just didn't know about the polarizer. If fact, I have to research what it is and its function. lol. I just HATE AG coating on monitors.

Ideally, I would love to purchase one of those Catleap 27" monitors. IPS, 1440, glossy what's not to love? But my hardware requirements dictate otherwise.

Maybe I am barking up the wrong tree? Is there a 23-24" monitor out there that is glossy, IPS, low-ish delay times for gaming, VESA compatible?
