Procedure on OCing

Thread Starter
I have read the sticky posts here about overclocking and I have a couple questions on procedure of overclocking. I have messed around with some simple overclocking, but I need help grasping the whole picture. As I said, I have been reading some of the sticky topics but I still dont see the whole thing. I dont understand what I need to do, and when I need to do it. Where should I start?

I have a PD 920 and an ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe. Just messing around with things, I have had my cpu close to 3.4 but I have it at 3.2 right now, becuase I didnt know what I was getting into, and I thought it would be better to slow it down and read more info. But reading can only get you so far when you need specific questions answered.

Getting back to my question, I dont understand when to increase core voltage, loosen memory timings, or when to change the FSBRAM ratio (I created a new topic about FSB:RAM ratio to keep things on topic in this thread).

If you guys can PLEASE help, I would GREATLY appreciate all of your advice and I will try to answer any info that you would need to help me.

Thank you,

-Travis

Do more reading, research on the web and on forums. If your not 100% sure what your doing then read about it! Thats my moto anyway, the only ways you learn how to produce a stable overclock is to read, research and read some more and then experiment. Anyway Ill answer your questions but i gotta be quick!
Im asuming you have upped your FSB (slowly!) well if you read the sticky's they explain (In basic terms!) that when your system becomes unstable after raising the FSB (Test stability with prime95) you often need more Vcore through the CPU to be able to go any higher, but in turn raising the Vcore creates heat and i cant stress enough dont touch the Vcore till youve got some better cooling!
I think more reading is the best bet tho, as that is my personal way of learning how to overclock. I know this is distressing but if you dive into it head first you will end up frying your 920 or never be away from this site asking questions! Its a long learning process, Ive been Oc'n for about a year and have done one athlon 64 build and i am just starting a pentium D build which is going to house a core 2 extreme soon!
Please dont think im patronising you as i am just trying to help as i know how hard it is to hold back from the tinkering!
Good luck and remember read, read, google-it, read ..............lol

Thanks. I have been reading a lot, and I thought that maybe someone could clearly define some steps for me. A lot of so called guides out there hint on what to do, but a lot of the time, they dont say much when things arent going smoothly (like right now i cant get mine to get past or at 3.4) and basically I havent really read anything good about troubleshooting.

Ill keep looking through everything, I just thought that with the mass of knowledge here that someone would have some ideas.

Anyways, thanks for trying to help.
