I was so excited for Planetside 1 it was ridiculous. I had fun with it but the progression was kind of lame for an MMO and the whole thing was quite janky. This one just looks absolutely amazing especially for a f2p. I don't want to get too excited for it but it's free so I guess there's not much to lose by getting invested in the game.

666 x 3 = 1998, technically it could be 668 vs 666 vs 666 or 667 vs 667 vs 667, but it's easier to just say 666 vs 666 vs 666 for simplicity since each continent holds 2,000 players at once.

Doubt they would purposefully narrow their market like that.

Obviously it's not written anywhere, it's just basic math. 3 factions, 2,000 players per continent.

Dust 514, but it's not on PC atm, unfortunately. It's a shooter related to EVE Online. One shard for the whole universe + cut throat politics where your decisions haunt you for years afterwards. Bluff too hard or overestimate your toughness and your empire carefully built up will burn to the ground in some weeks - or if you are tough but bite off more than you can chew then over half a year or more of soul crushing attrition warfare, making em pay the butchers bill for every star-system they take and seeing who runs out of stamina first. Dust in this regard is unique as deathpenatly is relatively harsh once you move out of hi sec empire and start fighting in null security space as with every death you lose your gear and the number of spawns is limited per mach, as you need to supply the body's for the mach beforehand and it will cost.

Tribes Ascend is also pretty nice and similarly priced (i.e., f2p, permament +50% bonus and some unlocks for 20$ although there is atm Steam sale for this for 10$). Well some "f2p" games have just f2p mode which in my opinion just replaces the demo or trial mode. So you can "buy" the game for some cost and dont have to keep shelling out money down the road. Now if the game turns into a penny pinchers cash cow and you have to keep paying for having an reasonable chanche then the game will ot be worth playing anyway - i.e., "golden ammo".

Fortunately, at least atm. none of the games I mentioned are that. However, given that Planetside is a Sony game I have my reservations about their long term ability to avoid "golden ammo" in there once the game is out of the dev's hands.

First MMO I'm interested in since i stopped playing wow two years ago. Finally something that isn't a completely/partly copied from wow.
