7970 ASIC Quality - Page 4

My Sapphire dual -x OC 7970 is 85% with 1048mV. I havent pushed it too hard; stable at 1150/1775 @ 1149mV. im kinda reserved when it comes to voltage, so is 1200 or 1300mV gonna be my max?

Also, idle tems kinda high; I live in California so its not cool at night (80's usually and i dont run AC haha just my fan). at stock voltage with fan at 45% im looking at 52 C. Other than my case being fully taken apart while its being modded/painted, is it really due to ambient?

Are you using sapphire trixx for overclocking your carad. check if your GPU clocks at idle are 250 Mhz . 52c at idle is too high for sapphire HD 7970 dual x. I have heard of less than 30c at idle for that card.

If your case is apart I would say no. I've got 2 case fans blowing directly on mine with a closed case and the same ambient temperatures, plus 10 other fans in the case, and I see 40c at idle. 50c with two monitors.

I have 3 lightnings, 73%, 79%, and 85%. When hitting 1200 I need 1.225v, 1.172 and 1.172 respectively.

As for your high idle, I idle at 45* on my top card when it is 80+ degrees in my man cave ( which is a converted Arctic so it can get hot)

Does anyone know if I can do something. Can I flash another bios?

Sounds more like it is just crashing (heat?), when a card hits OCP the voltage will drop to 0.00V, black screen & require a restart to get video back again.

yeah the temps on 3x1 setup would be a bit higher. also you have a power hungry, hot Phenom II x4 at 4.1 Ghz. that also would increase ambient temps. though not so much at idle. but under load your card might have a difficult time because of lot of heat being dumped from the hot Phenom II X4. your ambient temps will rise quickly. So its better if you back off your CPU overclock to maybe 3.6 - 3.8 Ghz and try to . That should still be fairly powerful to drive your Sapphire HD 7970 Dual X.

Good info. Right now I actually have it running at stock 3.4 and voltage until i get a cougar vortex fan to replace the stock hsf on the hyper 212+. Its been 4 months @ stock, im just in no rush. 3.4 is plenty fast for me considering what I do on this computer. My max cpu temps should be around high 40's due to it being summer when running BF3. Idle around 36

Are you thinking my 965 is limiting my 7970? Im still showing a gpu limit rather than CPU (GPU load at 99% while CPU load at 85% in BF3, which is my most demanding game). I would say its getting close hahaha.

4 pages and no one still hasn't explained that ASIC quality is meaningless?

I'm starting to lose faith in OCN.

Mine's 66%, running at stock (925/1375).

It's fine, but I have a messed up mobo right now, so my PC is relying on heavy overclocking for even the slightest performance. Bad BIOS chip and faulty CMOS (settings won't save). When I get my 3570k, I'm hoping that my ASIC will go up.
