Was worth it for the 30c drop in temperatures though. I don't have to worry about burning anything up anytime soon.

I can run 1800+ plus on the Mem, But saw No difference in FPS or performance.
Might be different if running more monitors or higher resolutions.

Run between 1250/1650 and 1275/1700 depending on Ambient here. AZ heat.
Air cooling, But block to come.

Its the Core that effects the heat generated.

1st card was defective, would GSOD even @ stock on multiple drivers. NEw card in, and 64.7% ASIC quality. Haven't even tried to OC it at all yet.

I just finished playing ASIC lottery today. I bought someone's used card who didn't know a thing about it and decided he wanted a 690. The used one is a launch day Gigabyte 7970 with ASIC quality of 86.5% SCORE!!! The other one was one of the cheap Visiontek's that are going around which has an ASIC quality of 74.2%. Didn't luck out as much as on the other, but as I'm running kombustor I can feel the heat pulse being pushed towards me as the fans expel who knows how much heat. For a total of $570 for two cards, I think I made out pretty well. At 1000 MHz/1450 MHz the VDDC of the high one is sitting at 1.006 whereas the other one is at 1.170 according to GPU-Z. For some reason the visiontek doesn't let me get all of the sensors that the gigabyte card has. Watching them kombust I'm just floored by how much faster it is than even my triple 6870 setup in the same test.

Is someone recording the results of our ASIC bingo game in a way that we can share them as well as our best on water and on air clocks?

My sapphire 7970 OC's ASIC quality is 81.6%, but I can do only do 1140/1800, because after that I start seeing artifacts even if I put close to 1.3V, because the vdroop is so massive. I've set core voltage to 1.274 and in games it drops to 1.174V and in furmark even under 1.1V, which is really annoying. I hoped this card could have done A LOT better when I got it, but not more than 1140 on the core frown.gif .

Is your card a new one and within the 30 day return window. If yes you could return the card and get a full refund. go for the new Sapphire HD 7970 Ghz Vapor-X

I have two Diamond HD7970's. First one is under water and has a ASIC score of 87%, my second is still on air until I get my water block for it on Monday, but it has an ASIC score of around 62%. So far I have hit 1195Mhz on the core and 1550Mhz on the memory at 1.12v (not even sure it needed it. The second one actually does better on temps on air than my first did on air. So as of right now I am not seeing a difference in overclocking based on the ASIC score, but I am still pushing them. Currently testing 1220Mhz/1575Mhz on Vantage. I want to see if I can break 47k, but my chip is only a 3570k, so it is holding my score back some. GPU score is over 60k, but cpu score is at 27k. Once they are both under water I will really start pushing them.

67.4% ASIC quality on an Asus 7970 reference card. I pushed it to 1290MHz @ 1.268V on water with loaded temps of 49*C.
Not bad if you ask me.

Your memory is at 1800MHz? Are you sure it isn't your memory clocks that are causing the artifacts? Try leaving your memory speeds at default, and setting your core clock higher than 1140 and see if it is stable.

Bit of a necrobump, but I figured anyone with a 7970(including myself) would find this information useful when trying to see how good their card is.

The below copy and pasted from Anandtech forum.

The ASIC Quality screenshot on the right can be evoked from GPU-Z's context menu and is individual for each graphics card and GPU. This feature has been developed for Nvidia’s Fermi (GX10x and GF11x) and AMD’s Southern Islands chips (Radeon HD 78xx and HD 79xx) and is supposed to indicate the quality of the specific GPU, in percent, based on electrical leakage data.

The GPU of our sample of the card has an ASIC quality of 76.6%. The higher this number, the lower voltage the GPU needs to work at the default clock rate and the higher overclocking results you can get with it by increasing its voltage.

According to Alexey Nikolaichuk (the author of RivaTuner and MSI Afterburner), the correlation between voltage and quality is like follows:
ASIC quality < 75% - 1.1750 V;
ASIC quality < 80% - 1.1125 V;
ASIC quality < 85% - 1.0500 V;
ASIC quality < 90% - 1.0250 V;
ASIC quality ≤ 100% - 1.0250 V.

My 7950 is 65.8% and uses 1.093v for stock (830/1250). Using Sapphire Trixx, it can go up to 1.363v/1.625v and allows me to do 1285/1600. Not as great as other watercooled cards out there, but I'm very satisfied with it, especially when I thought I was maxed at 1200mhz before.
