Verifying PSU Load Calculation

I've been trying to look around but it's hard to find power usage numbers for a system with those components and the CPU and GPU being OC'ed. Closest I could find is this from the Bit Tech review, where only the CPU was being loaded.

This goes along with what a few people I spoke with said about their systems pulling 500W+ no problem on with just the CPU being at full load.

Based on this, it seems like I should go with the 1000W version of the Seasonic Platinum over the 860W I was planning to buy, especially as I plan to have this PSU for a long time and when I put the capacitor aging to 25% to reflect that, it spits out a recommended number of 960W. Couple this with the fact I plan on upgrading the CPU to one of the octocore IB-E CPUs when they come out and a GTX 700 series (aka Big Kepler GK110), and the 1000W is looking even more like the right way to go.

Thoughts?

I would say you have the right idea there. For big CPUs like that, you are going to need a big pipe to give them power. Not to mention a big GPU pulling, too.

Keep in mind, though, that there arent going to be many (none, really) programs that put 100% load on your CPU and GPU.

The hell, 924W for a single GTX680 system? Even with a massively overclocked system that's a ludicrous recommendation. Extreme.Outervision's calculator is garbage, try PSUCalc instead.

I recommend any quality 550-600W.

Yeah, I agree with Phaed's. My system (see sig) pulls around 420W from the wall (so around 360W DC) running the Heaven benchmark, and the one you're proposing wouldn't need much more than mine. IOW, you don't need anywhere remotely near 900W for the system you're talking about.
