As the title says, is it generally better to drive my Samson SR850 32 ohms (AKG 701 knockoffs) using the motherboard port or the built in amp on my speakers? I've heard that the amp on my Promedia's isn't so bad, but at higher volumes there'll be a noticeable amount of distortion. To confound the problem even more, onboard sound has supposedly come a long way. Where should I plug my headphones in according to your opinions?
I've been going back and forth between my motherboard and speaker inputs; the onboard sounds slighty better to me in my opinion. I guess that means onboard has progressed quite a bit.
I've given the idea of getting a better soundcard a thought. People have told me that even getting an ASUS DG makes as much of an impact as walking ---> Honda Accord. I doubt that, but I do believe that it'd be better than onboard. For the best sound quality I'd have to purchase a nearly ~$200 HT Omega, and I simply don't want to spend that much. As for headphones amps, the same principle applies. I'd rather jump from onboard to something better than the amp equivalent of an ASUS DG without breaking the bank, something that won't die on me and is of quality and price between an entry level DG and a high end Halo XT.
