need some help with hard drive issue

Ok, I got a free laptop the other day. Owner claims he spilled something in it and it wouldn't boot. I removed his hard drive to do a data transfer. When I got home with the laptop, turned it on and it fired up. Thought ok, maybe he didn't give it time to dry off. Today, installed a hard drive(verified good) and it won't boot again. Power just flashes when you try to turn on.

Only thing I can think of is that there is residue left over shorting out the sata/hd controller. Anyone else have any ideas?

unplug it and the battery hit the power button to remove any residual power then spill water all over it to rinse said laptop off then soak in layer of rice and see what happens after a day. dont get the screen wet though

I would rather take it apart and clean off the top of the board with alcohol. Another thing I forgot to mention is it passes full diagnostics with hard drive unplugged.

Take it apart and check all connections/terminals for residue from the spill, clean with rubbing alcohol(the higher the proof the better).
