Have you made sure the cable you plug into the sound card from the Control panel is the right way around ?

Dude your not gonna find an answer, I've spent hours on hours looking at every post realted to "X-Fi Front Panel" and "X-Fi I/O" and have found no fix for this.

I've even called the idiots at creative and there tech staff is worthless all 3 of them that I talked to.

This is what my problem was...

A friend of mine had a PC built at CyberPower and he got the X-Fi Platnium. He did not need the front panel & remote after all so he said I could have it since I set him all up and hooked him up with 174gb of "backed up music"

I went home and installed the X-Fi I/O plate in the front of my pc and securly connected the ribbon cable and the 4 pin power cable. The card itself also has power going to it.

When I booted up I noticed the red optical light turned on and was getting very excited to hear what an optical output would sound like going to my Harmon Kardon HT reciever, but when I went in to plug in the optical cable there was no output, nore did the mic work or headphone jack, pretty much my machine isn't recognizing it.

I then went to Start, Programs, Creative and choose the feature that lets you setup the IR remote. I got the error "no IR device found"

So far I've triple checked all of my connections, tried different PCI slots, updated my bios, diabled on board sound, booted up pc without card in it, and nothing has worked.

The fcked up thing is that is was working fine in my buddies PC.

Any ideas guys?

What version of Xfi?? How do you know power is going to it? And do you have sound normally when speakers are connected?

Also are you using the latest drivers from creative? I'm not infront of my computer now but there's comething like a media source control panel or something and it has a HOST of options in there for configuring your sound card.

I know there is an option in there for headphones and how they're detected. I was tinkering with that last night. Just make sure you install the proper software for X-Fi. IMO, media source blows everything else out of the water.

The way that you know power is going to it is by removing the dust cover of the optical out. There will be a red light with power. And when you disconnected the 4 pin power from the panel the red light is not there.

I'm using the latest X-Fi Drivers.

I've tried hooking the panel up to my exsisting Xtrememusic card first and when that didn't work I used the Patnium X-Fi soundcard outta my buddies machine and that still didn't work.

I know it's not defective beacuse it works in his rig. I've even had his rig 1 foot from mine and used his Power supply's 4 pin cable to power the panel in my rig and still made no difference.

Once again this has to be a issue with motherboard compatability?

Should I go as far as removing a stick of ram, only using one video card etc.?

That is weird. I'm assuming you've unstinalled all the software and drivers and then reinstalled with the latest. And you said the ribbon cable is correctly attached. Hmmm...I would say it could be dfective hardware, but since the both of you are having trouble, that seems unlikely.
