Turn off your VOIP in your audio controls. I belive that that is the main problem. Also, make sure that when you update your punkbuster that you place the HTML files in the "pb" folder found in your Battlefield 2142 program folder, because when punkbuster scans your system it looks in the "pb" folder for the updattes. It should be something like Program Files-->EA GAMES-->Battlefield 2142-->pb-->html.

I'm not sitting in front of my desktop so I don't know if thats exactly the path, but its close enough and will be easy to find. I would recomend saving the updated punkbuster files to the desktop and then transfering them to the pb folder when finished. Next just restart the computer.

That should take care of the problem. If this works for you let me konw and i'll make a faq's page
doesn't PB update by itself? Maybe thats why I keep getting kicked off to the desktop...

I don't have crashing problems but I do loose my connection with the servers when im playing. It doesn't happen in bf2 or other games like counterstrike and DOD, and my xbox 360 works fine on live. It must be 2142..

Turning off VOIP was the solution for my CTD's and hard reboots.

Also, you can send PB to sleep by typing in the console:

pb_sleep 500

Then:

pb_writecfg

This stops a lot of slow down in the game

Update your directX to the october version from HERE then make sure you have the 1.1 patch, and if your using an X-Fi you have to set it to game mode because that causes it to crash as well

yeah i learned these from experiece

I'm not one to nay say, but playing BF2142 is by FAR the absolute worst gaming experience I've ever had. Not only am I having the same problems as you guys, but I bought the game via EA Downloader Yea, i know. I'm an idiot.

yeah, the EA downloader does make the situation worse. If the content of the game wasn't that good I wouldn't be playing it.

I agree with the above. I'm in postion that i'm so p***ed of that i paid for the game, and what really gets to me is how much i like it.

Disabling VOIP, Updating your sound card drivers, Installing the latest DirectX and running Software Sound does all help. But it still doesn't stop it from crashing, it just gives you a fighting chance to play a whole round or if your lucky a map.

EA are a pile of crap when it comes to ruining Developers and perfectly good Games. Tbh God knows why, simple comunication can go along, but even this is ****ed up. I get the distinct feeling from what i've seen through my time playing what i like to think are good games, that EA work on some kind of twisted logic. Snap a deal with a up coming game, make sure the Developers are fully supported so they can create something amazing. Then once the game is released wash your hands of everything. If you look at the majority of EA franchises, most games just get progressively worse and worse, and seem to be pushed off the production line faster and faster until the game is not worth playing and the Franchise is almost dead.

Previous examples like C&C, Dungeon Keeper, The Sim are all classic examples just to name a few. Battlefield will be one of them i suspect.

Hehe P.S. look at all the **** sports games. No offense but all your paying for is a face lift and an update on the players names. This will probably offend many people, but the majoirty of EA's sports franchises are crap. But people being people are fickle, and these games will be bought.

Rant Over.
