While not as fragile as a HDD perhaps, it's simple unacceptable to ship any electronic card in a envelope which increase the risk of damage dramatically from impact and shock during transit. Even static electricity damage can occur from the improper use of an envelope to ship this delicate item. The shipping method selected by the consumer should have NO influence on the proper packing to be used. It's the responsiblity of the Shipper to properly package the item. In fact UPS/FEDEX will NOT pay for damages to an improperly packaged item EVEN if insured for damages - because the shipper failed to use proper, appropriate packaging methods to prevent damage.

SSD is more durable than you think. In fact why don't you watch this video.

Only two SSDs didn't make it, one being hit with a bowling ball and one being hit with a golf club. Standard shipping is no where close to the level of abuse shown in this video.

In fact one time I bought an Athlon X2 OEM from Newegg. The CPU didn't even come with a box. Just a simple plastic cover from AMD and packed inside of an envelope. Works just fine.

The whole point of the box that's a bit dented is to protect the item inside it. There is no rule (at least there isn't where I live) that says that the retailer has to deliver the item in a absolutely perfect box.

But I really don't see the problem here, the box did its job by protecting the SSD inside it.

I think the worst one I've seen from newegg was a HUGE box that had packaging peanuts and only a postcard with a game coupon in it.

I would be very upset if they did this to me, I don't care if it doesn't have moving parts.

Most of my larger stuff from Amazon comes in it's retail box ( like computer cases ), sure the boxes get beat up, but the item inside is always good to go. Aside from 1 case I had, which it wouldn't of mattered since it looked like the couriers dropped it off the top of a building.

I think the box would be fine to mail out alone, the envelope is just blank media to slap a label to,, I've ordered cases that only arrive in their own box they are packaged in, your basically asking for a package for a package to protect the box that's protecting the components. If it saves time and money and reflects lower prices from NewEgg for a redundant shipping package its good not bad.
