Vista Beta = Teh Sexx0rz - Page 3

I love how everyone is sucked in to the "Vista is great" thing just because it's mass advertisement and how Windows is pushing it as "the latest and greatest".

Look up a Linux distro that goes by "E-live" I believe. All the eye candy you could ever want, and not NEARLY as bloated as Vista (who eats lots of fatty foods, I hear).

Also look up XGL. It takes up no more than Vista resource-wise and it's waaaaay cooler. I think it's optimized to work with most Debian-based distros.

Vista isn't that bloated.... once you trim it down a little. I've been running it on my Laptop and SigRig and it is pretty reliable (RC2). Beta 2 was a disaster though.

I like to go Run... --> msconfig , the I disable some of the services....

Another huge point is AERO. I had it enabled until it said it was using about 75MB of ram.... Aero is kind of the "point" of Vista though.

I have to say it's very stable though... it hasn't locked up once and that's with F@H full time, periodic AV Scanning, massive multitasking, etc.

I wasn't sucked in by the Vista is great. I was sucked in by the Vista is free thing and the Vista looks cool thing. I am yet to see and ad for Vista. I've only heard what people have said on these forums and what friends have said from using it.

And I used Linux for a while, and I use XGL when I used it, but it's not nearly as user-friendly as Windows OSs are when you first start. I'm sure with time I would learn to love it. But I've spent so much time learning Windows, it's pretty much all I know.

Same here on the ads. I have not seen one Vista ad yet. The only place you see Vista is the little "Vista Ready" stickers on new computers. And in tech forums. I kind of doubt that most people even know of Vista. And BTW, I have been messing around with Vista and I really like it so far too.

I'm fairly sure that there will be a DX10 work-around for XP at some point. Whether that'll be some kind of emulation on the OS side (official or otherwise), or whether it'll be game developers making games backwards compatible with DX9, or both, I don't know, but I'm sure a solution will be found.

In all likelihood, I would imagine game devs will make their games backward-compatible, but the trade-off will be the player loosing out on some of the nicer effects in games. After-all, XP users are a massive segment of the gaming community and are likely to be for good while yet, even after Vista is out. There's no way game devs will alienate a large segment of their target market by making their games DX10 only, at least not for a good while anyway.

Highly-Annoyed

Good point Highly-Annoyed.

I don't know why people are like 'whats the hype, its not that good', fact is that microsoft pretty much own the OS market because the majority or users have XP or will soon to have vista when there sold on pre built PC's, game and software developers will latch on and eventually just make the game for vista, you don't see many games nowadays for xp with win 2k compatible anymore!

So yea, it is the new revolution because software will be made to eventually only run in vista, its a fact really, for the majority of software/games.

Oh, and its not well advertised at all, no one in my tech class knows what vista is!

If you have the 32 bit edition you can install just by emulating the image as a virtual drive. Check out daemon tools
