Need new keyboard

Thread Starter
Right now I have a razer keyboard non mechanical. Every so often when I game the keyboard becomes unresponsive and I have to unplug and replug to get it to work again.

I need a suggestioin for a new keyboard. I am about to pull the trigger on one of the corsair mechanical keyboards but what else is out there. I have never really done any research on the subject and was wondering if I could get some help.

I play all kinds of games MMO's and FPS if that helps.

THANKS!

I wouldn't recommend the Corsair mechanical boards, as not every single key is mechanical. The macro keys as well as the F-keys are non-mechnical. There's really no reason to settle for that when you can get a completely mechanical board for the same price or cheaper.

Personally, I'm fond of plain looking, non-gamerish keyboards, so if it I was buying a keyboard right now I'd grab a Rosewill RK-9000. The price is pretty good at $80. Since you say you currently own a Razer keyboard, you could just grab a Black Widow. They're only $72 on Amazon.

Those would be my two recommendations as they're relatively affordable. No reason to spend more money unless you're desperate for backlighting.

All of their other keyboards are bad, but the Black Widow is mechanical and is an okay choice. Although I can understand if the experience with your current malfunctioning Razer keyboard has left a bad taste in your mouth and you'd like to go with another brand. That's perfectly reasonable. I personally don't like the aesthetics of Razer's keyboards, so I would never buy one.

Define best.wink.gif

There isn't really a single "Best" keyboard. Everyone prefers different looks, feels, and features. I personally use a Filco Majestouch 2. It's the best keyboard to me. It's simple looking, doesn't have any fancy gimmicky features, just well-built keyboard that looks simple and awesome.

Other people don't share my opinion about features and love their keyboards with media keys and backlighting, which you could buy for around the same price as the Filco. The Overclock.net Ducky Shine, for example.

List off some features you're looking for and whatnot and I can help you narrow it down thumb.gif

Here are my current favs after trying quite a few recently. As you can see, I like linear switches without the clicks or the bumps in the middle of the key stroke.

Backlit Gaming - Mionix Zibal 60 w/ Cherry Blacks
Gaming - CM Storm Quickfire Rapid w/ Cherry Reds
Office - Filco Majestouch 2 TKL w/ Cherry Blacks

Those should get you started, but I'm sure any other keyboard expert will tell you to go with Cherry Brown switches if you do any significant typing. I just don't like the feel of the bump in the middle...it makes me feel like something is wrong with my keys even thought obviously there isn't. That's just me though. I type perfectly fine on both my cherry red and cherry black boards.

I really love my Logitech G510. It's not mechanical and its backlit so the keyboard snobs will look down their nose at it but I still love it. Its whisper quiet, has tons of features and customization and looks pretty cool too and I admit, I like cool looking gear. The LCD screen is kinda gimmicky but I do use it with FRAPS and CoreTemp while in game so it is convenient. It has more macros than you could ever need and its record-on-the-fly feature is very nice and easy to use. Plus I couldn't live without the volume roller and the mute button.

I have a Black Widow Ultimate too that I'll bring out every once in a while and its a very good keyboard but I just like the G510 better.
