Did you overclock the CPU/NB of the Bulldozer? What about the HT? Im curious to see if these have any effect and help out the 8120's performance.

Not necessarily. If you want a budget rendering/multi-tasking machine, BD is pretty good in my books. Horrible per core performance though.

Cool cause Im curious to see if Bulldozers benefit from NB tweaking like the Phenoms did. Also wondering if a HT increase would help either due to the cores sharing resources and such.

Thread Starter
My overclock was a very simple one using multiplier & fsb and changing the voltage. I believe at the time it was 1.40v 20 x 200 for the 4Ghz and 21.5 x 200 1.40v. for 4.3Ghz.
If you do have more oc experience than me and you adjust the other settings available like HT, NB Voltage etc etc then yes you can see tangible benfits. Using the multiplier & fsb like i did is a simple way that does not yield the best result but still improves performance. There is a thread here >

http://www.overclock.net/t/1140459/bulldozer-overclocking-guide-performance-scaling-charts-max-ocs-ln2-results-coming/100_20#post_17450937

This shows you a very good guide and way to overclock FX cpu's. I haven't tried adjusting the finer settings due to me and my motherboard having an argument tongue.gif

As for the comment " bulldozer sucks ", well yes and no. FX does lack single thread power it's certainly true as seen by the image part of the test. Does this come over as noticable in day to day use ? NO
Do single threaded apps run at a snails pace in real world time, no. It does lack grunt i admit but is it noticable to me ? No not really. The performance in Sthread apps is fine as long as it is not a thing you do predominantly ( which most users don't ).

I can say for fact the Bulldozer does absolutely shine in multithreading apps/programs. In Adobe After Effects CS5.5 my FX cpu just sits back has a drink by the pool and does the work i give it like it was a childs play thing ! I was expecting good performance but WOW not that good !!

Macleod check the above thread and you will see in the guide how all the adjustments effect performance thumb.gif

Why are you only posting 4.0GHz results for the 8120?

Edit - Also 1.4V is way too high for 4.0GHz. You should be around 1.3V

Edit of the Edit tongue.gif - You asked for 6100 results so I'll post them later tonight.

Just as an experiment to see how well the allegedly-improved scheduler in Win8 plays with Bulldozer (and to see if any further improvements were made between the dev preview and release preview), I'm going to run the benches and see what happens. Will update a bit later with results.

Thread cleaned.

Stay on topic, QUIT with the bashing already.

I will not hesitate to hand out infractions if this type of behavior continues. We shouldn't have to lock every single Bulldozer thread.

I'm leaving this one open, and I am monitoring it since I saw it before it got out of hand.

Just throw this in here from one of my posts..

Intel system 4.4Ghz Quad core and SLI GTX 560's ( Normal versions )

Crysis-4xAA.jpg

AMD System, 4Ghz Hexacore with SLI GTX 560 448 Core

006bfd23_Dwm2012-06-1213-21-51-42.jpeg

Minimum frame rate on the Intel i7 870 is 35% higher and the average is 27% higher

Or, you could say that's $360 worth of cards beating $538 worth of cards doh.gif

Prices were taken from newegg and both cards are the cheapest ones they had

And before people say that's Phenom 2 and not Bulldozer let me just say that Phenom 2 does a lot better in Crysis due to higher IPC, so Bulldozer would score lower!!!

Trinity is said to offer around a 20% jump over Bulldozer? So looking at the scores AMD will still not be able to match Intel first generation CoreI series of CPU's with Trinity.

Take these results as you will and draw your own conclusions.

A 4.0Ghz 1090T is the equivalent of a 4.3Ghz FX-8120. So if you clock the 8120 up to around 4.7Ghz, you should see better scores than what the Phenom could do.

To Macleod, I don't think NB OC'ing helps with BD, unfortunately. I think I remember reading an article on it somewhere. But, we should have a couple actual owners here test it to see to get an unbiased test...
