[KG] Huge GTX570 overstock delays GTX660 until August - Page 10

The GTX 660 is still coming out on June 25th. OEMs already have the card.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Honestly though, if the 660 is $300 and has 570 levels of performance, I will be extremely disappointed.
Argh, I was ready to pull the trigger on a 670, but I'm all for saving money, and if a 660 is enough for 1080p gaming....I might just have to wait...

Man, nVidia is really having a rough year.

How is something largly full of facts, but not practical. Please learn the definition of words before you use them. I agree that 1080p is the standard, but I know for a fact that when running HD textures in 1080p I reach a VRAM limit on a 1GB card. Current setup is 1440p, and with HD textures I wouldn't imagine going under 4GB as devs are focusing more and more on visual fadelity, especially in the area of mapping things to VRAM.

So, uneducated customers will eat the costs of nVidia's mistake?
Good one, nV.

Claiming the game is a VRAM hog is fine, I agree it does use a lot.

But to say it soaks up all the VRAM that's available even when it doesn't need it is false. Pure and simple because my system has 6000MB of VRAM spread accross 3x GPUs and all of it isn't being used.

Some games and benchmarking tools can use less but from what I've seen on my system it's only around 200-300MB per GPU and always at lower resolutions which to me, isn't really significant.
