I was wondering if you could help me with someing, I turn my computer off, flipped the psu switch off and unplugged everything from the back and then I removed my sound card and cleaned it with 70% rubbing alcohol and wiped it off with a dry micro fiber cloth and then cleaned my fans and put everything back togerther and booted up the computer but the sound card is not showing any signs of life, no red light from the optical port and not showing up in device manager, I have reseated it a few times and still nothing. There is a 3 year warranty on the card (Asus Xonar DS) . It is a pci card and I have one pci slot(sound card went here) 2 pcie x1 slots (not used) and one pcie x16 slot (video card in this one) and I dont have a spare motherboard to test it. It dosent look like there is anything wrong with the card by a visual inspection. I go to a votech and have 2 1/2 days left (monday and tuesday) so I might be able to either have it tested in another computer in IT or bring it to Electronics to check all the solder joints and caps and stuff. The card is a year and 3 months old.

Not trying to "flame" or "troll" or whatever it's called, but if i'm not mistaken, isnt 70% rubbing alcohol made up of 30% water? :/ I've heard of Rubbing Alcohol/ mineral oil builds, but they used 99.9% Rubbing Alcohol.
Either way it sounds like you'll need to RMA the card. asus has a great warranty though, you shouldn't have a problem. I wouldn't mention the rubbing alcohol though. Just a simple " it stopped working" should suffice.

Seems a bit awkward that winning alcohol killed the card, but it's definitely the only thing coming to mind. If you had a dx I'd say did you plug it in?. If you rma it don't say anything about cleaning it. Keep it a short and sweet as possible. As you would in the legal field.

Thanks for the replys but It was not the card, It was one of those weird issued that happens once in a while on hp computer motherboards, I reseated the ram and followed the instructions on hp's website to set the jumpers to reset the bios and now it's working.
