Spin retry count literally means that the drive failed to spin up to the proper speed (RPM) on the first attempt, then had to try again.

It's usually a sign of mechanical issues... but who knows, maybe your powersupply is weak - that would explain why all your drives have it?

There's no easy way to find out. If you have a multimeter, you might be able to test your PSU's +12v rail, but even that isn't guaranteed to find a problem.

What model of PSU do you have? Although any PSU can be defective, there are certain brands and models that are far more likely to be.

Since your drives are the same model, it's also possible that they came from the same batch and have the same defect.

Hmm... if it randomly disappears again, check and see if Spin Retry Count went up at all, for that drive.

Have you ever updated the firmware for your ST31000340AS drives?
