to overclock anything more than about 10%, yes you do

Make sure you have ATLEAST

120mm fans intake and exhaust

you should get that proc up to 3.0

I would say you would need aftermarket cooling, even if you don't overclock. You got a 7900 GT, and 2 gb of memory, which is going to get warm, so I would recommend a nice 80mm intake and outake or a PCI slot fan, if your going to overclock, I would look into rear 120mm, and front 120mm fans.

What they are saying is that even if you are running everything at stock speed, heat will still be generated, as you are getting some powerful components.

I hope I'm not being out of line here, but you seem to be spending a fair bit on bits.
Maybe consider spending just a few more ££ or $$ and get a better case.....
I have a Tsunami Dream, which is superb value, and comes with 120mm fans front and back, and even a 80mm fan on the winow/side panel.

It's keeping the temps real low, and I'm overclocking considerably.

Here she is:

But anyhow, if you use the case you have now, ensure it has at least the 80mm fans front and back (as I would imagine 99% of all cases do....)

And like somebody else says, you can get a PCI slot extractor thing, which would also help.

I'm completely in agreement with MSI_andy. I had to learn that the hard way myself actually. My generic case couldn't handle anything above 2.6Ghz even with 4 120mm fans running at full. I just ordered a P180B and while its 120 USD its one nice case that should fit my needs perfectly.

hey im starting to wonder if its possible my buddy's computer is overheating? its always freezing at random times and sometimes it wont even boot up into windows without being slow as hell.. but leaving the computer off for a good half to full hour does the trick.. but then theres no telling when its going to freeze again. here is my friends specs:

Thermaltake 420 watt PSU
Thermaltake Soprano Case
san diego 3700+
asus a8n
geforce 7800 GT
seagate 7200.9 150 gig hard drive*
4x512MB OCZ RAM = 2 gigs
dvd burner

the video cards drivers report it to be running at 60 degrees celcius so i think his video card overheating is out of the question. and his PSU is sufficient enough for this sytem right???

*we've had the hard drive RMA'd before due to similar problems with the hard drive being the suspect. since these similar problems are happening again im not sure whether to condemn the hard drive again..
