Buying proprietary/classified software that works on/with Linux one different levels and buying Linux sounds to you entirely same?
From tittle I could only assume they bought ubuntu disks to install them on computers... at least it could say "US navy buys Linux based software to guide drone fleet"

Most of people know that Linux is free, so reading title like this results in "WTH is this".

The title is definitely misleading.. Although seeing as Linux is open-source it can't really be bought so I guess as long as people are aware of that then its okay ^L_^

the thing that bought here is the company services which is services in installing linux as a part of control software in their base. CMIIW.

it does makes sense since if it is windows I'm imagining a lump sump of money needed and prolly easy to hack.

After a malware attack on the Air Force's Windows-based drone-control system last year, there has been a wholesale move to Linux for security reasons.

Pretty much sums it up right there.
